I was curious as to everyone elses problems with the p38 in particular. Below is a list of my issues and the fixes. I'm sure someone has had or is having the same issue and would appreciate to see what fixed it on someone elses truck?

Its a 96 4.0 which i've owned for roughly 8 months.

-EAS blowout - Sping/Coil Conversion
-Wouldn't start and stay running - Fuel Pump replaced
-Misfire Codes - Spark plugs and Wires replaced
-More Misfire Codes - Replaced Wet air filter ;)
-Front Passanger Window "Blocked" - Replaced Window regulator as the scissor arms
were bent out of wack and what not
-Rear Right Tail Light - Replaced Bulb
-Bonnet Open every 10 seconds on my dash - Cut 2 Wires for the Bonnet Sensor
-Front Left Fog Light - Replaced Bulb
-Driver Door Handle Broke Off in Hand - power drill and a few nuts and bolts

I'm excited to hear about everyone elses problems :D

That all sounds about right, it is a Rover after all. That's why we love them!

That's nuttin... Doesn't seem any worse than any other 9 year old vehicle. I figured from the title of the post it was one with problems. Sounds as if you got a good one.

I've had most of those occur with my truck ('98 4.0), except the door handle problem. My list includes the following:
EAS - converted to coils
Misfire Codes - Spark plugs and Wires replaced
Both Rear Left and Right Tail Lights - Replaced Bulbs
Both front fog lights - Replaced with Hella 550's and fabbed up aluminum bracket
Front right dip beam - replaced bulb
Passanger seat controls don't work properly - pulled fuse
Right side HVAC blower motor failed - pulled glove box and replaced
Headliner is sagging in rear - will recover when it gets worse
Sunroof sunshade headliner material is coming off - will replace along with headliner
Coolant hose at thermostat leaks - replaced hose and new worm drive clamp
Stepper motor inop, car idles at 2000rpm - removed, cleaned and reinstall - prob solved
Drivers door lock plunger loose - R&R
A, B, C pilars material coming off - removed all, sanded, primed and painted black
Ready for the kicker ? Wait for it, wait, wait.......

SLIPPED SLEEVE - Brand new long block, pulled motor, machined heads, new valves, etc - close to $5000
I think I know the troubles you've seen, and then some...

Other than those minor problems the truck is great and I love it. As soon as I get some more $$$ I'll convert this one into a full offroad truck - TruTracs front and rear, more suspension mods, Alan Bates front/rear bumpers, winch, sliders and roof rack.
Then I'll get a nice 2002 4.6 HSE for the street. :)

If you want to get a newer P38 with all that stuff already fixed under warranty, I'll have my '01 HSE up for sale in about a month when the new car arrives. There should still even be an extended warranty left on it.

Those problems don't sound too bad for a '96 - for a truck that "old".

Contact me or watch the For Sale ads for the '01.

No, bought it in sunny CA :)

Jason - I don't think I'll be ready in a month, but thanks for the offer. Come to think of it though, my brother might be interested. I'll be in touch....

Forget the 24" - this baby's ridin' on chromed rail-car wheels! You should see the looks on faces when I'm chewin' up the road with these bad-boy wheels. Maybe I better change them out before I run into suspension problems.....

Don't forget the transfer case selector motors that fail due to a leaking o-ring, front diff failures; front driveshaft u-joint neglect; climate control computers; blend door motors; door latches; ghost like security/ecm communication failures; sunroof guides; tailgate buttons ( but you can upgrade to the shiny chrome one!); very expensive hub bearing failures; and seat heaters!
I have a shop full of Rovers and often I get to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't really want to work on anything else!

I had an 88 RRC for awhile back when I was in high school. My sister and I blew out the front diff about a mile down the street from our ranch ..So we walked home and tried to haul it back with a John Deere tractor. That was a real site to see. Two girls, some chains, a RRC, and a tractor! Needless to say we did not get too far.

About par for the course, maybe a birdie. When I worked at the dealer we used to stack up BECMs like cord wood.
