Noisy Neighbors

I live in Uganda, and the neighboring compound is an outdoor club-type gig that I've had it with. Need some direction.

Every Saturday and Sunday, from 7AM to 7PM, the compound next to us fires up their sound system and blasts rap music all day. For weeks, we've simply walked over and asked them to turn it down. They will for around 30 minutes, then it's right back up.

We've written letters (a big deal in Uganda) giving them a final warning and outlining they are breaking Ugandan Noise ordinances. Which is laughable because even though they do exist, enforcing any law here in Uganda is a joke. We threaten to sue them or call the police and they laugh, because they know it'll cost us a fortune in bribes.

Contacted local police, they won't do anything. It's all a joke here. They say "they're running a business, leave them alone."

Finally got around to measuring the sound levels today - 89db IN MY LIVING ROOM. Their subs shake the windows. At the fence line - 98db. It's obnoxious.

The chainlink fence between our compounds is pretty well covered with vines. My first attempt at pissing them off today was burning a few tires along the fence. They made a comment over the mic in the local language that "the white people must be burning trash, please feel free to move away from the smoke."

My wife is going batshit crazy. I'm trying to think of indirect ways to get my point across that if they're going to make our lives miserable, we can do the same.

Just let it drop that the club caters to homosexuals. That will shut the place down faster than you can say mzuri sana.

Cops aren't the only people to bribe over there. Uganda borders areas populated by people that will do anything you want. Consider buying them a few new patrons; patrons of the variety that causes my phone to ring.

Cheers,

Kennith

Is this real? If you're in Uganda can't you just buy the people that own the club and sell them to somewhere else?

Kennith, not only does Uganda border areas, we have them here. I've tried to figure out a way to use them, but I don't want anything coming back on me. If they get caught and talk, I'm done.

Well, this went well.

Could have been worse. You could have posted your 2003 Discovery with 154,000 miles, piles of off-road accessories, and "thousands of receipts for work" done to it for $12,000. The responses you'd receive for that would make this thread read like the back of a cereal box.
