Hi I am looking for some feedback here on typical operating temperatures. I have a 180 F thermostat and my temperatures normally run about 194F during City driving and drop to 188F on highway. In traffic at idle in stop and go traffic it has gotten as high as 202F. I am thinking of doing the inline thermostat mod. Do my temperatures look normal and is it worth doing the inline mod. Head gaskets have been done by previous owner and want to avoid causing an overheat and having to redo head gaskets. Any comments appreciated. Thank you.

Those are normal temps with the setup you have. The inline will get them a bit lower, but nothing wrong with the temps you're currently running. I've run both. Still have the inline setup running a 170 tstat in the summer and a 180 in the winter. It's pretty easy to swap out the different units and you can get them anywhere if they do fail. Or even run without one all together if you needed to.
Some people don't like this mod, but Ive had great luck with it and the engine definitely seems happier with lower temps.

your temps look good. i had the same on my '04. i did the inline mod because i do some towing in the summer and it gets into the upper 90's in July and August here.

I didn’t do the inline mod but am running the 180 t stat and the Chevy fan mod with a HD clutch. I’ve had good luck with that. Off-road 100+ outside, I will hit 205 with the air on. Usually it’s at 190 with the air on scooting around town on hot days.
