Spent about 4 hours yesterday at the auto show, of which time I talked to anyone who had an off-road vehicle there.

Toyota: they had an outdoor off-road course set up that you could drive a Tacoma and / or a Tundra on. After a couple of laps, I started asking about the FJ. Candid Replies to the obvious questions were:

No, there will not be a diesel. America is a PITA when it comes to diesel and don't be surprised if Jeep includes the CRD into other models.

No, there will not be a soft-top

Yes, we know that the tail lights will get ripped off.

They will be in showrooms in April.

Jeep: After hearing Toyota's story, I ventured over to Jeep world. They did not have any of the 2007 Wrangler line, but they did have the gladiator. I asked about diesel powerplants in their future, the reply was:

Wrangler, no....not yet. However, the truck built off of the Gladiator concept will have a 2.8L Diesel  I asked the gentleman from Daimler to repeat what he just said and he continued on. Look for the Gladiator to make production as a 2008 MY vehicle with the 2.8l diesel, solid axles, xx.xx inch ground clearance, and at three or four different package levels that range from utility Rubi version to the chrome bling version. Then he continued on to say that,... the 5 door wrangler should have the 2.8L diesel.

The Daimler dude said that the off-road demographic is screaming for the 5 door wrangler and the gladiator as well as diesel. This was very exciting to me.

HUMMER: Of course I had to go look at the H1 Alpha hardtop. Very nice vehicle. Can I borrow $150K from someone here? I got good credit. Anyway, The H3s were there in force and the first thought that came to mind is....crap.

Land Rover: Hello? Anyone? Nope, NADA, zilch, no show, absent. Land Rover was not present.

Chuck,

I did and shot a little over 100 pics. Between the overhead lighting and additional lighting on the vehicles, I was having a hard time getting clear shots. Give me a few days, and I will post a link to the photos that came out.

That Gladiator will me mine. Oh, yes. It will be mine...

Ford did mention making a GT with a classic color scheme. I am partial to the white with the blue stripes, but if they do bring out the pastels that will be nice. That is one hell of a machine.

Cheers,

Kennith

They have the Camp Jeep in the Wash DC auto show. I noticed something funny when I was there. There were a bunch of outdoors type people all over the Jeep booth. The LR booth was thugged out. Funny were LR is heading.

Its been hashed out allot on this board on the direction LR is heading and the consensus seems to be that LR is heading away from their off-road roots. I applaud Jeep and Toyota for bringing out products that cater to the off-roader, they will make a ton of money with the FJ Cruiser, 4-Door Wrangler, and Gladiator. Thank goodness that there are a ton of older Discoverys and RRC's that could be gotten for cheap to play with.

I dropped my Disco off for servicing yesterday (LR Alexandria), and had been told ahead of time I wouldn't be getting a LR loaner. Sure enough, the Enterprise desk is IN the dealership now. I had a choice of three SUVs: a Kia, and Exploder or a Trail Blazer. I took the Chevy, sheesh. Ironically, the service guy told me they'd run out of loaners recently and had to give a customer a LR3. After she got her Disco back, she came in and bought her own LR3. See, that's the way it's supposed to work!

KJ, trail blazin' :(
