Pretty sweet. I wonder if they're recording the coordinates and bomb size to forward to the CIA/FBI/HLS? ;)

I was surprised at how little damage they predict. I assumed it would be a much greater area for them.

You must not have tried one of the 100 megaton soviet ones...

Agreed though that the north Korean nuke wasn't horrifyingly bad - here the damage wouldn't have been beyond Coronado.

The 100 MT Soviet device was theoretical. The 50 MT device was so large (26' long and 6' tall) that the TU95 carrying it had to be modified.

I suppose that you could roll a 100MT device out of the back of a cargo plane. The yield would be such that you would likely lose the aircraft in the resulting shockwave.

It looks like it only predicts immediate damage, and not radiation fallout which would be over a much wider area (and depend on the wind direction).

Cool tool though.

It also doesn't take into account wind or atmospheric conditions...with a steady wind, even light, the radiation would spread for miles and miles

edit: sorry Scott, we must have been typing at the same time

I am relieved that I am out of the inhalation zone for my city. I feel emboldened now and want to fuck with iran a little.

Gee thanks, Rob! Just remember, Westmoreland County will catch the worst of the fallout should Pittsburgh get nuked.

That does not account for collateral effects - like radioactive material carried out from the blast zone by the wind, or people spreading out radiation on their clothing and belongings etc.

I had a long conversation last night with a guy who was commissioned as a reservist to Chernobyl site for dosimetry and cleanup efforts. Very educational, too. He racked up his "allowance" for radiation exposure in three months - but some others who didn't break out their dosimeters before pitching their tents maxed out after a single night, and that was tens of kilometers away from the reactor.

No idea on that one. but I will say, that I didn't see the check box for "<small><input id="option_logdata" type="checkbox"> Don't log anonymous usage data" till after the fact... Guess i'ma screwed now.

I will say.. it makes you wonder a bit. I was always under the impression that if DC. and Norfolk Va. (the largest Naval base on the east coast) ever got hit, that i'd be a gonner for sure. it looks like i'll be good for a few days till the fallout and zombies come trugging thru Richmond.

But either way, if this did happen, we all are screwed.
