I liked how the McCain camp gave press badges with "JV" printed on them to the press guys following him.

(for those who don't get it - pointing out that the press following McCain didn't rate a trip with Obama (like the "top" news people))

sorry, I didn't mean so much to get into a McCain vs Obama debate, there are already threads out there for that. Among those who are in favor of McCain, do you think his campaign strategy is effective, given the media bias he faces? If not, what should he do to turn things more in his favor? Hamsquatch has offered his thoughts, and I can't help but agree that staying alive is a good goal for McCain ... :p

CNN’s Amanpour ‘Surprised’ by Lack of ‘Euphoria’ After Obama Speech
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthe...ur-surprised-lack-euphoria-after-obama-speech ^

CNN’s chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour, reporting on Barack Obama’s speech in Berlin on Thursday’s “The Situation Room,” expressed her shock that the European crowd didn’t seem to have the same mania for the Democrat that the media has: . . . .

No "Euphoria" in the land of socialist, for a socialist?

Thanks. I'm on top of my game today, I guess.

You didnt answer the question though, why the complete disdain for Obama? Do you have a reason? Several? Whats the strongest reason? I'm curious.

Obama = Bullshit. The guy is negative data, negative results. He hasn't come up with anything cohesive, all he has is abstract concepts like hope & change, a new tomorrow, bringing people together, saving the Earth from global warming, being a good citizen of the world. I also believe that he and his ilk are the perpetuators of racism in this country. Without the race card he people like him just plain don't have a dog in the fight. He sure as shit isn't running on his experience, he's running on the color of his skin. To open a bullshit campaign stump speech in a foreign country (with a horrid racist past, by the way) by pointing out that "I know that I don't look like the Americans who've previously spoken in this great city" is a complete farce. It's disgraceful. Like it or not, he was representing America today and he made us all look like morons, like we are all proud of the fact that we let a black guy show his face to give a speech today.

where were interest rates before Carter took office?

where are they now? Will McCain or Obama be able to magically influence interest rates or will the fed dictate that in response to what the economy does? just asking...

Can't give you specifics YET on interest rates. I know they climbed astronomically under Carter, but I can give you solid inflation rates. In 1976 when Carter came into office the rate of inflation was 5.75% and by 1980 his last year in office it had climbed to 13.58%. Regan came in inheriting the Carter 13.58% inflation rate and by the end of his first term in 1984 the rate of inflation had plummeted to 4.3%.

edit: FWIW the inflation rate in 2000 when Bush came into power was 3.38% and by years end 2007 it was 2.85%.

Before I comment on the topic at hand, I should say that I am fairly thoroughly disgusted by both parties, and not enthralled by either candidate.

He sounded like a preacher during his speech in Berlin. Anybody else? Sure didn't sound like the typical candidate for president speech.

Waaahhh...sounds like a bunch of squabbling because your party but forth some lame 80 year old guy as their candidate. Are you really sticking to your guns that Obama is trying to use race to get him elected?? So an inexperienced, young, mixed race Senator is beating the shit out of your war hero GOP fatcat. Well..I can see why you'd be pissed. Get used to it Blue! Maybe you'll enjoy the next eight years as much as I have enjoyed Bush's presidency--now bend over and tell me how you like it. Obammmmmmaaaaa...

So you grade the performance of a president based on a single index?

Thanks Flyfisher for the interest rate data. Appreciate you making the effort to post that. I've found another piece if info regarding historical market performance compared to presidential terms. (there is a chart for those who don't want to read)

http://www.cxoadvisory.com/blog/external/blog3-25-08/

There are many variables to take into consideration when declaring who would make a better president. Time will tell.

"Another interesting thing I noted was that all press people wore some big badge around their necks that was blue and said something like ?Change we can believe in.? I don?t know if that is normal at such events but I thought that was very inappropriate. Reporters are there to report, not to be part of Obama?s campaign team."
 Sounds like the "reporters" on Fox "News". Maybe they were taking a lesson from Fox.

Newsworthy things for McCain might be:

1.) not bashing Obama
2.) being likeable
3.) doing ten jumping jacks without getting winded
4.) not losing his temper
5.) living long enough to see November of this year (sorry)

Have fun.
6.) Not selling out his principles in order to get votes
