After owning a Series Rover I decided to add to the stable and purchased my first Disco. I am currently having three codes preventing me from getting it inspected. The three codes are P1187, 1313, and 1314. I conducted a tune up (plugs, wires, fluids) this weekend and the CEL stayed off for about 120 miles. The CEL is now on along with the codes. I have read what each code is individually but I am wondering if collectively it equals a common disco issue. I own a 1998 D1, 4.0, with 170,000 miles (rebuilt 12,000 miles ago). Any thoughts?

I take it the engine was removed for rebuild? Sounds like to me somebody bumped and bent a reluctor tab on the fly wheel and forgot to reconnect an 02 sensor. Both - hopefully easy fixes. Remove inspection plate and spin crank pulley bolt with a wrench to spin and inspect the fly wheel. Make sure all the tabs are straight otherwise the crank sensor gets confused and throws codes. The O2 sensors come up on the bell housing and connect to the harness. some times they can also just get dirty or corroded or the pins dont make a solid connection. I would start by making sure the connection is clean, and.. it's actually connected.

Good luck

Today I changed the bank 2 sensor 2 O2 sensor which cleared all but 1313 and 1314. I showed DMV my parts receipts and they gave me a waiver for the inspection. Good to go for another year!
