Odometer/ Speedometer failure

My odometer just stopped at 90,000 on the dot. Is there any way to get this working again or do I need a new(er) one?

At the same time, the speedometer became really erratic. I just had new speedometer cables installed about 10,000 miles ago. the tach is fine.

Are these things related? Is it most likely a kink in the line or are these cables just prone to going to shit really quickly?

thanks

Maybe the transducer decided to fail. Had similar symptoms on my 95 last year and the fault was at the transducer.

I can't remember, does the '89 have the angle gear for the speedo on the back of the binnacle? That's always been a key source of failure in the older Range Rovers.
