I happened to stumble across a local guy that manufacturers off road bumpers for Jeeps. I'm thinking of having him prototype something similar for the DI. What do you guys think? He's saying a production model would sell for around $500-$550. That includes the jerry can holders and high lift mounts. I'd probably use the TJM bumper as a general basis for the actual bumper layout.

I don't like jerry cans stored on the bumper. To me, it feels like a rolling bomb. I'm not worried about myself, I am worried about the idiot behind me who doesn't stop because he/she is too busy texting their friends.

I like the price...I agree with Discoinjapan regarding the weight. I like the "rack" above the spare in the jeep picture though....hmmmm...

i like the bumper. there are definetly some sweet cargo options for the backs of TJs and samurais.

the rolling bomb is a good point, but is it totally necessary to DD with filled jerry cans in the back?

I love it and the price sounds great. I rack surfboards on top, so jerry cans a no go up there, but I need a solution for can storage.

I'd be surprised if it actually came out that cheap though.

I guess this post makes me de-lurked. :D

Talked to Casey the new owner of Safari Gard today and they are getting ready to release a swing away tire carrier with the can holders. For those in the need there is always High Country Offroad too.

Cheers,

Mike

i'm just curious...why do yall need jerry cans? sure they look cool, but are you seriously going places where 5 gallons of extra fuel is going to save you?

i'd say the majority of people with "cans" don't actually need them.

theres already one out there

it would be very difficult to build one for that price and still make it strong. im assuming for that price it wouldn't offer any side (quarter panel) protection?

Derrick from what I understand the price he was quoted is for the s/a only... he said something about them mounting it to a tjm rear...

Honestly I would say just get the HiCountry complete rear asy... The fuel cans are protected by the spare and you don't have to open the s/a firsr then your rear door... It is as simple as releasing a small latch and opening your door...

And they are bulletproof... Not saying your local Jeep guy's aren't but I know the quality of HCOR... I have seen many others out there and they are ok-good but HCOR's is serious stuff...
