Offroad Upgrades

Does anyone know if typical offroad upgrades would be possible on the LR3 such as:
1. ARB/Safari Gard bumpers(winch/no winch)(front/rear)
2. rock sliders
3. steel wheels and offroad tires(love to get the Goodyears on the LR3 G4)
4. more than one recovery point for the front and rear
5. magnetic side protectors
6. high-lift jack points in case you have to lift the vehicle offroad to access the spare(worst nightmare)
7. other LR3 G4 specific accessories-rear ladder, snorkel, tires

Of course being able to mount all of these would wonderful, but my biggest concern is how quickly a rock can damage 19" alloy wheels. I was wondering if anyone had taken notice of what size wheels and tires can be mounted on the LR3 for weekend use.

I am sure, but everything is so different it will take quite a while for the after market to respond. However you have to also take in to account if the aftermarket will even want to mess with the LR3. There is not a whole lot you can do with it, lifting I am not sure about, is there really even a market for these product for the LR3.

You might eventually find an ARB since they seem to make bumpers for everything. Ladder may be avail from LR sometime. dont see a use for anything else.
"Magnetic protectors"? what are these.

although i was surprised how a freelander handled off road so who knows.

They are magnets that go on the side of your car to protect it from scratches. But I don't think land rover changed to steel.

The aftermarket hasn't even reponded to the new Range Rover yet. And it's a few years old now. Although the market for lifts and sliders for either the Range Rover or LR3 is pretty limited. For now at least.

And what ever happened to the gear for the P38A. Other than a winch and a lifted spring conversion, there's not much available. And they're 10 years old now.

There's always custom.

The market barely noticed the P38 Range Rover.... Current RR and LR3 are probably going to be left in the cold with possible exception of very expensive MTs

Rovertym can do stuff for the new RR, and soon the LR3. All tye need is to see the vehicle, to make measurements, blah, blah. Try contacting Steve, he could tell you what he is working on.

Hitch Mounted Bike Rack $389.95
Expedition Roof Rack $899.95

All the accessories you listed are the factories "Kit" equipment. All dealers have this list. Supposedly there is a winch listed as well and more goodies coming later. Bill

I just this morning was talking to my local ARB guy. He says that ARB HQ in Melbourne (Aust) have a Disco 3 on order and will be designing a range of accessories for it. How extensive this range will be is another question.

Only time will tell.

Go to a local fab shop and have them fab you up some bumpers, sliders, etc. If they put it on a G4 chances are you can get it put on yours if you got the $.

I say there is no market for "heavy duty" off-road equipment. Off-road looking stuff maybe, but not real hard core off-road equipment. Land Rover is losing more and more of it's enthusiasts (in my opinion) with each new model which means less off road use. Land Rover has gotten more into the same calss as Mercedes or BMW, I would expect to see 99% of modified Range Rovers and LR3s with 20 inch wheels, lowered, and booming systems, not NATO steel wheels, winches, roof racks, or ARB bars. That's my two cents. I'm not bashing anybody here, I'm looking at it from a business standpoint. I think many of the big off-road equipment producers would take a hit financially if they invested too much in trying to outfit these vehichles. That's why the previous Range Rover never had anything available.

I finally got a chance to see an LR3 up close last week in Atlanta (Buckhead). I have never seen so many Range Rovers, Discoveries and LR3's in one place as I did in Buckhead. It would be like seeing a tractor in Iowa. They were everywhere.

The salesman (Michael-very cool guy) said there was no way to move the tire to the rear door due to the split door. A swing away might work. Kinda like a Bronco. If I had an LR3, a rear door tire mounting kit (if they ever produce one) would be one of my first purchases. I just can't get over the ass of that thing. Maybe ARB will produce a rear bumper with a swing away spare tire rack mounted to it...

The GM of the dealership had his outfitted with the Land Rover rack and it looked pretty good.
