Oil cooler line leak-fixable or replace?

I'd like to ask if anyone has experienced a leaking oil cooler line. Worldpac (where we order our parts from) doesn't stock the lines/hoses so i guess it's a land rover only genuine part, unless anyone knows where else to order them. My big question is: is there an o-ring inside the hose behind the quick connector? and if so, can it be replaced or is a new cooler line the only way to go? it's a 2000 disco 2, 4.0.
thanks to all replies!

I would call Will Tillery, or order some from Paddock. Shipping from Paddock takes about a week or so. Will is probably the quickest.

Will is definitely the quickest. I've received parts from him before I even placed the order. Well, maybe not that fast, but he doesn't mess around.

There is an o ring that sits in the fittings. Its the same o ring for all trans and engine coolers. They leak like a cow pissing on a flat rock. I always use the factory cooler pipes. The 3 trans pipes alone could cost near $500 in just parts. I think the engine oil cooler pipes are a little more reasonable. Lots of Defenders burn because of broken engine cooler hoses and East Coast Rovers make a braided stainless line for them that seems to fit pretty well.

But you say quick connect so if your talking a Disco2 then I would just find a set of lines. Those quick connect things would pop off after they get removed. I think the locking tabs don't return to the original latched position because all the crap that collects in them. When I do radiators in those trucks I usually get the cooler off the radiator and leave all the lines connected to avoid all that.

so stew, is it possible to replace the o-rings? i know the best solution is to replace the lines, but i'm tight on cash during this holiday season. besides atlantic british, who would be a good reputable online supplier of rover/disco parts?

I"m still not sure what truck your working on but I guess its a Bosch truck. If it was mine I would see if I could dig one out with a pick. See about matching something up. I'm not surprised you can't find any, lots of stuff comes out of the UK for this older stuff.

I think the guys you see selling parts here would be good. I kind of get stuff thru different chains and always genuine rover stuff. But Will and Drillbit would be my first choice for something used. Schram for some stuff you want new parts but don't care if its aftermarket brands.

You've got DBH and Flint in Memphis. Both are hydraulic repair services. You should be able to take these to either place and they will be able to find an o-ring to suit for mere pennies, if not free.

ESR1594L is the oil cooler pipe o-ring. I have a stash since my last replacements came with the o-rings pre-installed on the pipes. The o-ring in front of me measures :

14mm OD
11mm ID

The cross section is about 1.5 to 1.8mm. I'm sure if you use these dims you can find a suitable one locally.

Here is the AB link.

If you have a Harbor Freight nearby, grab one of their 180pc Viton o-ring kits. One of the sizes will be a good replacement. (can't remember which specifically) I've been running these on both ports on the engine side for about a year with no more leaks.

I took my lines to a hydraulic hose shop and the made new ones with the old ends with better hose. I shortened the metal tubing and moved them farther from the exhaust manifold. I've done that on two different Disco's with no problems. I can't remember but I don't think it was $40. for each set. They also did it right then and had the o rings as well. Good luck.
