Strange question, but searched and couldn't locate any threads that mentions this specifically.

Does the 4.6 on the DII have (2) oil drain plugs? There seems to be a plug right next to the oil filter and also one lower down on the bottom of the vehicle. Is there an upper and lower drain plug?

If not, what do the two plugs drain?

To drain the oil you're going to want to use the lower one on the oil pan. Not sure what the upper plug is for that you're referring to but it is definitely not for doing an oil change.

OK that's what I've been using, but found another plug, bigger than the drain plug up near the oil filter. Think it's on the right side of it.

Not sure what this is, but it looks like its on the oil pan.

The plug you are referring to near the filter is actually the block off for the oil cooler line passage (oil cooler lines were done away with mid year 2002).

Got it.

So then, the oil that drains from that plug is coming form the oil pan than right?

Yes, the oil that comes out the bottom plug is coming from the oil pan. That bottom plug is screwed into the bottom of the oil pan itself.
