My home is where my Disco is
Even though D2s and P38x (post XA) share the same engine, there is a particularity in D2 V8s 4.0 and 4.6 : The oil filter. Yes, it is mounted at an angle.
BMW, at that time owner of LR, decided to make things more complicated and, in the place the oil filter bolts on, screwed a so called "oil filter adaptor" with an o-ring (future leak point) and over that fitted an aluminum housing (with another o-ring, potential leak point) with the threads for the oil filter.

Well, my D2 is bleeding herself to death, leaving a nice trail of oil drops wherever I go.
I looked at the parts catalogue, which lists 2 parts numbers
ERR7308-oil filter o ring
ERR5888-Oil filter adaptor o-ring (this is the outer one)

Well, I was told only ERR7308 was stocked, at a whopping almost 10 euro (yes) for a "gen-you-win" o -ring.
The small one ERR5888 appears to be made of unobtanium, was not listed and nowhere to be found, told it had been discontinued.
Well. Dismantled housing, changed outer oring, could not change inner as had no replacement around and did not want to knacker a part vital for my engine with no spares available, and in the worst case scenario, leaving oil filter housing open to debris and dust for an indetermined period of time (until a replacement o ring could be located) in a windy and dusty area.

So yes, the leak is smaller but it's coming back with a revenge.
So i kindly ask: Could any of you please give the dimensions of that o-ring (ERR5888) in order to try to locate a suitable/compatible replacement and stop leaving a trail of expensive Mobil 1 wherever I go?
Best regards
