Oil Level on dipstick and light on start-up

01 Disco 210k -

So I searched and didn't find the exact answer so here is the question(s)

I get the oil light for about 2-5 seconds in the morning - last light to go out on the dash. I keep the level on the dipstick right at half (otherwise things start to seep with more oil in it, otherwise everything stays dry) Running 10w-40 since things are getting warmer, 10w-30 in the winter.

It only does this on the first startup of the day - no light otherwise. Driveway is on a slight incline, so I tested starting it on a flat surface and it gets a little better - light stays on for maybe 1-2 seconds.

Anyway just wondering the levels people are running on the dipstick...more oil the less time the light is on.

Obviously something is wearing - oil pump? Headgaskets and oil pump/cover done at 160k.

Runs fine otherwise - uses about a quart every 1k miles, no smoke on start up etc.

Thanks -

You should check your oil pressure to see whats going on. Good to see high mileage discos out there, keep it going. You might want to do an engine flush if you never have before.

My '04 did the same thing, turns out the oil pump had gone out. The actual gear had broken it two places. Hopefully this is not your problem, read COSTLY! Like already mentioned check your oil pressure, its the only way to know what's going on.

I have heard it is somewhat common on the 04's (dowel alignment issue) I did the pump and cover at 160 since I was "in there" hard to believe the pump would be bad in 40k...

Certainly possible...
