I remove the steering (I think it’s called drag line) to drop it down. I tried once without removing and didn’t seem like you could get it out without doing this....might be some British aluminum origami I don’t know about though.
Two years ago, I removed my oil pan with only the crossmember behind the front axle removed. At that time I had a 2 in lift and the vehicle was up on a two post lift. I did have to maneuver it around the oil pickup, but it wasn't impossible.
Jack the car up on the frame so the front axle droops, remove crossmember, discard in trash can and pan will drop down and out. Crossmember bolt head can strip out easily and sometimes have to be cut off.
