The gas and brake pedals in those Astros are about 1 inch apart, probably easy to hit the wrong pedal or both at one time, not to mention the footwell is so small you can barely fit both feet in it.

He claims that he was in reverse backing up and heard something like he had hit something or backed into something, so he was going to pull up to see what it was. He said he put it in drive and it took off. I'm not saying he mistook the brake with the gas, but he's a pretty old dude.. but I don't know him other than the occasional chat in the parking lot. Anyhow, hit my truck 1st, then took out a Hyundai then crashed into the Bldg across from us. They said he was in the floorboard by the time it hit the Bldg., airbags went off but didn't even touch him. I'm hoping they can fix my clunker Ford, its nice to have for sure.
