OME 3" Lift DII

Just got the 3" OME lift from EE for the DII. Great service from EE, thanks. I was nervous about driveline vibes and steering issues and all kinds of other stuff. Went from the 2" to 3" with no problems. Anyone out there looking at OME for the DII should look at the 3" lift. Just got off the trail and the extra height is actually noticable. Especially when burried in mud :D . Guess I have an extra inch of air to breath too. The only drawback is the general handling of it is slightly degrated around town.>JB

Is your vehicle ACE / SLS?

Did you need to extend either brake hoses or ABS leads?

I have choice of 2" or 3" OME lift from EE.....can't decide which to go for yet.....as you say I'm worried about drive line vibrations I may induce.

Cheers for now

My Disco is not SLS. Had springs when I got it. I have no problems and am glad I went to the 3".JB

Can anyone give an accurate description of expected or experienced changes to the on-road handling with either lift fitted?

How noticeable is the change from the stock suspension? Spongy or firmer ride? Tracking? Any wheel alignment issues post lift? Will I need to fit longer brake lines?

The reason I ask: I own a 2000 DII and have been eyeing the OME lift w/ ARB/TJM bull bar/winch/bumper combo for some time now, but have been hesitant to take the plunge...

Thanks from another newbie!

Shane,

I just did the OME 779/781 (with firm shocks) lift on my '04 DII about a month ago. Long and short of it, I have no regrets. The ride is definitly firmer but much more controlled. I carry approx 300 lbs of gear, plus passangers and tow a trailer with a tounge weight of around 400-450lbs pretty regularly and the OME springs handle this weight much better then the stock set-up. I had a TJM bumper installed about a week before I did the lift and the weight of the TJM (no winch) caused the front end to bottom out over fairly insignificant bumps (ie. coming up a driveway at anything but a crawl).

Regarding on-road characteristics. I have seen no tracking issues on the freeway. I was concerned about this as my wife drives the truck daily but have had no noticable problem. Cornering is much flater and confidence-inspiring. Step-in height is (expectedly) higher due to the lift & 265/75s. It is enough that my wife complains about it fairly often. No problem with alignment or brake lines at full articulation.

Overall I think the OME springs/shocks transform the DII into the truck it is supposed to be. The ability to carry cargo is improved, it drives better and with larger tires gives you increased clearance which is definitly noticed on the trail.

Lance,

A more convincing argument in favor of an OME lift I've not heard - thanks for the information - time to call EE...

Shane,

I have just completed installing a TJM bull bar + winch (Warn XD9000) onto my '01 DII. The nose has dropped but standard suspension is still coping.

That said I am now still trying to decide on OME 2" or 3" lift...I have both options available. I'm worried that the 3" lift will lead to drive line problems etc.

Lance,

Your set up must have given you what I would call a 2" lift? unless spring purches are different on a '04 DII? I have 779's available but chose the V.Heavy Duty 762's for the rear.

Cheers

Jeremy,

Yes, mine is what is generally referred to as the 2" lift. I actually got about 1 3/4" if I remember correctly but may lose some when I add a winch.
