My buddy and I are about to lift his 01 DII, But he tows about 4300 pounds and someone in my local club said to go with a OME hd set-up for towing , and OME or rancho shocks. Which is better for towing

I can't speak to OME but I have a 99 DII SE7(rear airbag suspension) with a 2" RTE lift (OME shocks) and just towed 5,500 lbs for six hours. It behaved very well with only a little sway when being passed by fast moving trucks (I didn't have a swaybar damper device, whatever they're called...).

For what its worth....

I had an OME HD setup with OME shocks in my '96 D1 and last year towed a ~3000lb trailer with my fully loaded truck from California to Iowa, where my engine blew up :(

The suspension, however, worked like a dream. Which is the point here.

There's always this option: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/performance/brand.php?makeid=38&modelid=432&year=2001&partid=6169 :smilelol:

I could also point out that my friend used to pull his Boxster on an open trailer with his RRC which had the same OME HD setup. Actually he might have even had the extra heavy duty springs in the back. I don't remember. Anyway, the engine didn't really have the power to pull it quickly up the hills, and I'd say it was a little squirrely and not the best setup. He ended up with a Ford F450 and a 40' toy hauler trailer that worked a little better...

OK this is something i know about, i tow a 1400kg trailer + gear in the cargo section (ie)12volt fridge, tools, recovery gear and so on (don't know what that is in pounds) when ever we go away, only time i don't tow a trailer is to work and back and day trips.

I use Lovell 3" lift HD springs MADE HERE (Australia), but OME HD springs are just as good and that was my previous setup (2" lift) combined with the OME shocks they work well (don't get Ranchos they break when carrying heavy loads)

You can get Polyair bags and a lighter duty springs to make it even better and an advantage with this is, you can level the truck and trailer out using the Polyair bags and when not towing let the air out to around 5psi and you can go wheeling with no restrictions, sort of best of both worlds nice soft spring for wheeling and pump up the Polyairs when towing a heavy load, speak to ARB about them both.

I think a company in the USA make a similar air bag but the name escapes me, truck spring or something like that i think there name is.

Hope this helps,

Baz.

My setup, it's a camper trailer the top opens up into a tent setup.

This is the camper open, it's 21' long and 18' wide, with a queen size bed inside, we are totally self sufficiant and can go 10 days before recharging the battery in the camper, we also have grid power and can plug into the mains power in a (what you call a trailer park), but we don't need to as we have a gas hot water shower and gas cooker.

This trailer is an offroad trailer setup for remote travel, which we do often:)

i run OMEs on most of my trucks and RTEs on one. if i had to do it again i would go with RTEs as i feel they don't lose any height after lots of towing and weight on and off the truck. either way you won't go wrong. both OME and RTE are quality products.

and don't spoil a good suspension with Rancho. leave that shit to the Billy Bobs of the world.
