Trying to figure out what the options are and I would like to hear / see what some of you are doing.

I don't have enough knowledge of the issues to decide between a compressor, compressor tank configuration, or CO2 tank, etc.

Let me hear 'em and see 'em if you have photos.

I carry a Power Tank mounted in my rear cargo area. Have been using it for 4 years and am VERY HAPPY with it. I go look and see if I have any pics of it on my hard drive.

I also carry a cheapy 12V plug in air compressor in one of the Pelican Cases on my roof rack (for backup).

CO2 no question on the versatility Runs air tools perfectly without pressure drop , runs lockers without the noise, fills tires from flat and usually even will seat a bead and portable if you need to assist someone else.

Per John Lee's recommendations, I also purchased several accessories in this thread (quick disconnects, air gun drying thingy, tire guage that hooks on the Power Tank, etc) For sure, they have made air type tasks MUCH EASIER.

In my opinion, us girls aren't born with the skills you boys seem to have naturally... so, we need all the help we can get. :)

Anyway, I hope all of that helps you. :)

only cuz i have not yet been able to allocate funds for CO2 but my system will accept CO2 from rear or from glovebox, when i add it and trunk mount the cylinder with a quick connect to my rear. or i can use a buddys co2 tank for a 'charge up' via either front or rear schraeder... and if and when your co2 tank run out you can use the 12v compressor(s), or even a bike pump if all else fails to at a minimum engage lockers

I usually fill the system on trailing days with my garage compresser to start off with 100psi, then the system just cycles to top it off once every other hour, this way i am always ready to engage a locker

I can 'force' the system to not stop at 100psi and get more air in it to run a power tool, but with a small air tank it runs out in a few seconds, but will loosen most bolts

when I tie in the right slider, i get more air volume,to run a tool or even air up tires faster
havent fitted a drain to the slider so i use it sparingly

i just wait between tires for about 1-2 mins till it reaches 80psi or higher then air flows fast and fills the tire in a very reasonable time

oh, I also carry a 'spare' portable 12v pump(my 1st one, its a Truck Air by Interdynamics) and often if I am pressed for time, I pump air from teh truck air into the front schreader valve while the trunk mounted pump does its thing, so when running both pumps, its not bad at all, even without co2

i used the CB CO2 tank from beveragefactory.com i can't see why anyone would bother paying for powertank's reg. mine does ice up a little after running my impact but that's not often. however, powertank does make a sweet ARB manifold with a built in gauge and blow-off valve. nice products, just overpriced. IMHO of course.

my setup was ~$135 shipped including a 10lb tank and adjustable reg. i've used my 10lb tank for tons of actuations, tool usage (incl impact and ratchet), and inflating my 34s. took quite a bit of careless usage to empty the tank.

i don't understand. the max output pressure of a CO2 setup depends on the regulator. the tank itself is under pressure as well (mine fills to ~1k) but that's largely irrelevant. just make sure you get an adjustable reg so that you can runs your ARBs, fill tires, and run tools as needed. there is a really good thread on building your own CO2 system in the tools/techniques section. a lot of helpful info is in there.

thats what i was looking for.

thanks

its under half the psi a pricier co2 tank gets charges to

you can air up from say 15psi to 32 on a 32-33 tire how many tires before its empty?

I dig th CB setup btw, but if for $125 more i get 2x the gas, I'm lazy and prefer getting fewer refills. just trying to get some comparisons

well, i'm still not sure what you mean. CO2 tanks are filled by mass. maybe you are confusing nitrogen tanks which are filled by volume? even if your CO2 tank was filled to 10k, the tank only will hold 10lb (or whatever the tank is rated to) of CO2.

at any rate, i get 10lb of CO2 which is all that matters to me. the pressure on the gauge doesn't really tell you how much is left. a scale is the most accurate measure of that.

as for the tire filling...i filled my friend's 245/75s from 15-35, my 34s from 8 to 40, ran my tools, goofed off with the solenoid, tracked down some leaks and still had tons left over. 10lb should be plenty for most excursions, IMHO.

thanks a million! i'm gonna augment my oba with CB co2 thanks to your replies
i aired up today from 15psi to 32 took me about 2mins a tire with a minute to let my air tank charge up inbetween - not the best but not all that bad either; i rather add co2 and take some load off my 12v pump, and co2 wont have any water in it, better for my lockers/air tools?

well, i can't take credit for it. read the thread in the tools/techniques section. i think it was nomar and SCSL (and others, i'm sure) that did the legwork. you like it. the reg isn't a purty as a powertank and doesn't flow as well but it just wasn't worth the cost difference. my airtools can still loosen CV nuts with my CB CO2 tank so that's good enough for me :) i am jealous of the extreeeeeme pimpness your truck has achieved. :flipoff:

racerwad, could you provide more direction on the parts needed and where you got yours? The tech post is no longer there that I can find.

it's still there. you just need to look harder, pookie.

i even added direct linkage this time :D

the system that mike linked to looked nice, too. the reg isn't as gangly and awkward.

I'm currently doing some final testing on a system that will allow mounting a belt driven York in a D1.
All factory stuff, including AC, will be retained.
Prtotype has worked perfectly for a month.
Just ordered the bracket plates from my laser cut guy.
If all goes well, I'll be selling the kits.
