Red, yellow, or blue top will work fine. Costco has about the best price on red or blue tops. Red for regular vehicle w/o winch. Blue or yellow if you run a lot of accessories.

Agreed. The Costco Red-top is hard to beat. Considering that you can almost buy two of them for the list price of a yellow top, it is hard to justify anything else unless you have too much money in your wallet and need to lighten the load to stop from walking lopsided.

I drive a Defender, so I sit on top of the battery. Having a gel battery had real appeal to me, because in the event of a rollover the only thing that would make my day worse would be to have battery acid dripping out of the seat and running down my ass, suspended upside down and trapped in the drivers seat by my seat belt.

Mind you where you place the battery, as these are smaller than the big-ass battery tray. Some batteries are 'handed' in that the positive post is only available on one side of the battery. I made the mistake of centering a smaller battery in the tray - only to have the bonnet prop stick make contact when I hit a pothole. Smoke, sparks and a melted battery despite being less than a week old....
