I'm hoping to meet you guys. We should have a trail report for you in a week or two. I would definately suggest a chain saw for fallen trees on the trail.

See you soon Andy:)

I'm good for friday and saturday. I'm sure Ro can make it one or both of those days. Are you guys going to stop in Bend while enroute to Hoodoo? if so I know some good local joints for Micro brews etc. Plus I can guide you through town. PM me for my cell if you like.

Andrew - we will hopefully be hitting the trail head in Hoodoo around 11:00am. Yeah we will be going thru Bend but it will about 9:30am... since you are in for Friday and Saturday, let make plans to meet up in Bend so you can head on up with us to Hoodoo. I will add you and Ro to the list.

RB - that would be cool!

Steve that sounds great. As the time comes get my cell # and we'll finalize plans. I may not have as good of a trail report as I hoped. The wife and I are headed to the Steens Mountains for an adventure of our own in the rover. We leave Monday. This just cuts into the time I was planning on scouting thats all. If Ro gets his starter this week he should be good to scout too.

This sounds like it will be a good time. Looking forward to meeting you guys.

Don't worry too much about a trail report... not knowing is half the fun! We got trail info from OHVA and corrected GPS points from Todd over at tentracks.com.

Whew! Finally back here. First, my starter goes out, then my computer dies, then bent a back wheel on my mtn bike (well, there had to be a third right?). took a while to remember my Discoweb password.:banghead:
Anyhoo, my plan right now is to get up to Hoodoo next weekend and drive as far as I can in a day and a half and see if I can't find some fun trails. The Discovery Route 3 (as far as I can tell) is a scenic drive through the woods. I was thinking I could scout some fun detours for a little more spirited driving.
Steven, what's your plan for that weekend? ie, how long do you want to drive each day and how far do you want to get by when?
On the Friday that you come through Bend, I'll probably meet you up at Hoodoo as the drive up there will be a long, slow one for the Series and I don't want to hold you up.
We'll talk more soon.
Ro.

Ro - the plan is to meet up at the trailhead around 11:00am on Friday July 27 and hopefully be down by the Oregon/California border Sunday late afternoon if that's possible. I'm OK with going into Monday if we need to.

Trip update: LRM would like some pics and a write up on the trip for an article or "Club of the Month" section to promote the NCLR. ARB has donated a 25% off certificate for us to raffle off during the trip and I am working on some other stuff!

So I had a great time scouting trails. Only vehicle problem was my door which kept unlatching on me. Need to adjust that before I fall out on a trail somewhere.

Beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery.

I have a couple of suggestions for the first leg of your trip:
Firstly, bring spare air filters. ;) Very, very dusty. How many vehicles are coming?

We drove for a day and a half (with various stops for photos and trail-finding) and made it from Hoodoo to Century Drive just west of Bend. Now that I've done it once, I'll be able to get you through this section quite a bit quicker.

I would also suggest starting at Mackenzie Hwy west of Sisters rather than go all the way to Hoodoo which is a popular OHV area and the dust is made worse by the recreational traffic. The roads from Hoodoo are wide and not challenging and (in my opinion) are only really worth doing when there's standing water to make it less dusty and more interesting. You do get good views of Mt Washington, but there are more majestic mountains further south.

Just my 2 cents and I have about another 5 cents worth. PM me.

Rohan.

We had some rain here last night. I'm not sure if we're in for more...fingers crossed. Water on the trail would be fantastic.

Went camping in some of the areas south where the trail goes. Beautiful forests and less dust. Nearly crushed by a falling tree while camped which was quite an eye-opener, but apart from that, great.
