Hi all!

As some of you may know that my beloved 95 Disco was totalled a couple of weeks ago. I am in the market again for a new vehicle and am trying to figure out what to buy next.

I love the Disco to death. But am also wondering if I should look at the 4Runner this time around.

Does anyone know the difference? I am specifically looking at a 2002 4Runner SR5 4WD with nearly 50K miles on it.

Why ask here if anybody would get a Toyota over a Disco.
Ask on the Toyota forum if anybody would buy a Disco.

In all seriousness you are looking at apples and oranges. We own a D-90 (Use to have a Disco II) and a Landcruiser. I have owned 6 different Toyotas and have never seen the service drive at a Toyota dealer. On the other hand I know all the service people by name at the LR dealership and they send me Christmas cards every December. It all comes down to personal preferences not the opinion of a bunch of Land Rover fanatics and their oil dripping, electrically quirky. something always squeeking, tempermental machines.

If it was up to me, get another LR! ;)

On the other side of the coin- I owned an 03 Toyota and had so many problems with it that it's now someone else's problem. My 95 Disco has never broken down, but at 100K it went through some expensive maintenance to keep it going (as would any vehicle at 100K if it is maintained properly).

If your heart isn't in it, buy the Japanese transportation appliance that has no soul. ;)

I've been a die-hard Toyota pickup/4Runner fan for the past 15 years, and finally broke down and bought outside the family and got a '95 D1 last October. The Toyota's never left me stranded. I've had usual maintenance and what not, but nothing too serious. My D1 died in the parking lot yesterday and won't start! Hmmm..... I hope this doesn't turn into a pattern with my D1 or it will go.

Had a 98 4Runner that I never had a single problem with. Did pretty well at moderate offroading and was a comfortable driver vehicle. To my knowledge, my ex-wife still drives it to this day.

I also have an 87 4Runner that's my rockcrawler and it works like a champ.

Disco's are cool and all, but there's nothing wrong with 4Runners. I'm a big fan.

my parents had a 98 4runner. It was a nice vehicle but i like to disco a little better except for the fact that the yoyo's engine seems more powerful but personally i would go with the disco

Is this going to be a new or used vehicle???

My sis has had more problems with her 2003 Toyota Truck- (cant remeber what model, but the front looks like a 4-runner- so it has to be the same general guts) than i can shake a stick at- 2 starters, two front bearings (?), a new ignition switch, fuel pump, and it rattles!
She bought it new, and has 40K miles on it now... Has left her stranded 3 times- when me and Rover came to rescue.

I know that with 233K miles on my Disco, and having little probs with it- I bought it with 138K- I think I shall start buying clean higher mileage vehicles rather than low mileage ones- if there is any bugs in them- they have to have worked out by then.

As for new LR's- if I wanted an Explorer, I'd buy one from my Ford Truck dealership.
I gotta feeling that "classic" Discos will go the way of the Defender.

If you want a good car that rides great and never wear out- buy an old diesel Volvo.

My 2 cents- which is about all I have anyway.

If you have to ask that question go buy the Toyota. 4 Runners are ok and have a flawless reputations. If I was smart I'd give my D1 away and go buy myself one. I think you have to want the Discovery .

Well put!! I miss my Yota a LOT, but most of that is the work I put into it... Anyway, I still wouldnt give up my rover for it.
