OT - Shrit printing

I want to make up some t-shirts and was wondering the best way to go about doing it. I want to start by making my own to test out designs before i order a lot of them. has anyone done this, what is the best way to start. I made a few shirts in jr high in shop class but dont remember the specifics. anyhelp would be appreciated. if i get this idea off the ground i'll throw in some free shirts .

hey rick,
if you have a design in mind, try

they can put your design on a variety of products and you won't get stuck with having to buy minimum quantity stock. plus they stock your product and they handle the money transactions. it's pretty sweet for low production run items.
