this truck was at the ROAV event this weekend, cool history. I met the guy who owns it, he is taking it to all 7 continents at some point.
Mostly original, other than a frame swap, and the bulkhead and some small repairs. It will be at the Winter Romp, Spring event at Uwarrie, the National Rally I think. This summer they are driving it back from Oregon to the MAR after Ike Goss and some other folks go over it.

Good lord, that thing just screams history. It's the sort of vehicle you'd expect Hollywood to cook up.

Cheers,

That is so cool - I didn't know it was going to be at Uwharrie - because I will certainly be there - thanks.
If any of you guys haven't contributed to the GoFundMe site that is helping Oxford tour the US - please contribute.
As someone who has followed the history of this truck for many years I'm proud to have the chance to see it here in the US.

From the GoFundME

"seeking your help with funding things like, shipping of Oxford back and forth from the UK, insurance fees, domestic transportation costs, equipment and supplies for the TAT journey, marketing and administration costs, and any unexpected repairs."

Like the new clutch that was being installed this past week....
After getting so much enjoyment from reading the book and seeing the film about the First Overland Expedition, I felt it was appropriate to make a small contribution. I am looking forward to seeing Oxford at Uwharrie and MAR and hope I can get a few moments alone with the truck to shoot a bunch of photographs of it. As an enthusiast of automotive history I really love seeing vehicles like the D-Type Jags that won Lemans in 1956-57, the race winning Ford GT-40's. Ray Harroun's Marmon that won the first Indianapolis 500 and other legendary cars. I think David Short's effort to help showcase Oxford is admirable.

I met the owner, his dad was part of the group of students. He is not staying with the truck all year, they are shipping it around or having volunteers drive it when they can. I know Hagerty Insurance is helping to sponsor, as is Doug Crowther.

Hey guys, I'd like to take my Rover to Key West to help the children and spread the word about the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Of course this is mostly about my Land Rover, the fuel bill, overnight hotel stays, unexpected repairs and meals. But I'll also be helping the kids. Think of the children! Please help support me by donating to my Go Fund Me.

He's providing value to many beyond himself.

Wasn't there a gofundme to bribe Chris to ban Dan?
What exactly is that "value"? I dig some Rover history as well, but it seems like panhandling to me.

The owner is not with the truck at the moment. I think it is being shipped or driven to almost a dozen events this year, with the final drive from Ike in Oregon to the MAR. I think he is coming back this summer at some point. It has a cool history, and I think it is great he is letting it get driven at some of the events.

I've seen some pretty questionable GoFundMe's. But if you're a bleed-green, old-school, rivet-counter Roverhead, then this is a pretty cool thing to see and be a part of. Not really my thing, but I get it.

I am honestly a little surprised the guy is willing to just hand it off to so many folks to drive. I would have expected it to end up in some collection and be driven on grass at best.
