P0440 and P0446 replace purge valve or VCS first?

Hi all,

[edit: make that CVS in the title]

I have the MIL on and 2 code: P0440 and P0446. The first is the "purge valve not sealing", and the second is "cvs valve / pipe blocked".

Does anyone recommend change the purge valve first, or the cvs, or just doing both together? As far as I can tell, they are separate items that would seem to have independent causes, though I am not sure about that.

Fixed:

For reference I thought I'd put the fix here: It was a toss-up between changing the purge control valve or the canister vent valve, since there is one code from each according to the RAVE CD. But the purge valve was a $35 Hyundai part off Ebay, and the cheaper of the two, so I changed that over (its on the LHS of the engine up top near the intake, simple to reach.) Had to break off the hose crimps and use hose clamps for the new valve.

After 100 miles and a passed inspection, the engine light is still off.

One other symptom that has since gone away was the engine idle would occasionally nearly stall, maybe once every 10 minutes, which is probably related to the purging, but I am not sure about that.

Next to tackle is the three amigos.

Thanks for the follow up. Wish more people would do that. When looking into the three amigos be sure to have a look at the SLABS serial numbers and check them with a reputable LR mech. I changed my SLABS out of my '00 for the newer SLABS and no more amigos. This was after many sensor changes.

Ok thanks flyfisher - I will look into that.

Here is the part: Hyundai 28910 22040

Pic shows the old Bosch part, its a slightly different shape but essentially the same thing.

My home is where my Disco is
Good to know that part is still available, and at the same good price.

Mine threw P0340, P0440 and P1xxx after a HG rebuild. Grounds seemed to be ok as I checked connection. I deleted codes and will do a test ride to see if they come back.

Cheers from Spain

I threw P0441 a month or so ago, then it came back.. I actually Just bought that exact purge valve yesterday for $39 at a Hyundai dealer.

I'm installing it in a few minuets.

For me the hardest part was getting those hose crimps off (is there some tool for that, BTW?) I remember the hose on one side was stuck fast, so I undid the next one along, and then with the unit in my hands I could yank off the adjacent one.

I believe Those particular clips are Not meant to come off. Though, others on the rover that look similar Are.

I got my hoses off. I just wasn't thinking.
