P0741 Code and Shifting Issues

I'm having an issue with my 2004 D2, it's throwing a code, P0741. I've searched and found threads but none that really closed the loop on the fix. In addition to the code, the truck sometimes revs high before engaging and taking off in drive. Additionally, when driving and slowing to a stop, it downshifts with a noticeable roughness. I got the truck about a year ago, the previous owner had it for about a year, he did a lot of maintenance and refurbishment, kept great records which he passed along to me. Not too long after getting it I noticed some of the shifting symptoms (didn't have an ultragage for the codes at that time and began checking and topping off transmission fluid. It was chocolate syrup dark. Serviced it in November. When checking the fluid to top it off a few days ago I saw that the fluid is back to that color and I think the transmission is running hot. This isn't a daily driver and isn't wheeled hard, mostly a sunny day cruise truck right now. My concern is that its not only a torque converter clutch solenoid in need of replacement since the fluid is dark and the transmission seems to run hot. Any thoughts? Thanks.

when you Serviced it, did you flush it or just drain and refill? if just drained and refilled then there would still be old fluid left that would dirty up the new.

why do you think the transmission is running hot? after market gauge or is the dash transmission light coming on?

Just drain and refill, should I re-do and flush? The dash transmission light hasn't come on, it is an assumption on my part that its running hot, both based on the color of the fluid and a faint smell. As far as educated guesses go, mine isn't the most educated!

I typically do three drain/refills a few hundred miles apart before I see a real improvement in fluid color. So give it another try or two before you get concerned that it's continuing to burn the new stuff.
