I agree with jim-00-4.6 except my comparison vehicle is a 1998 Grand Cherokee. I am on the sixth year with my 1999 Range Rover P38 and I will hit 150K miles before Christmas. I?ve tried to sell it a time or two, and then considered pulling the motor and putting it into a DII at one point. But then I realized how much I like my P38. It has not been a money pit nor has it left me setting. I?ve not experienced any turd like conditions with my P38 what so ever. I drive it 70 + miles a day and it has been nothing but reliable. I just keep it maintained as recommended by Range Rover?s maintenance schedule. If a Range Rover P38 is what you want, then look for one between the 1999 and ? to 2002 model years. Better engine/fuel management. The under hood fuse box is a known issue. HVAC blend motors are a bitch to change, look for the book with an ! mark next to it in lower right of the climate control display. Air suspension is a personal choice. Great when it?s working, not so great if not. I went to coils and have no regrets. Other than that, keep up with the recommended maintenance and you should be good to go. This is just my opinion as a long time P38 owner.

That second Gen Grand Cherokee was a pile of crap. Heater cores, Window regulators, Brake warp every 10K miles, electrical issues, tranny, etc. They are money pits. I had a first Gen GC and it was marginally better then the second gen.

My range rover has been far more reliable then any Jeep I've owned. Far less drive train issues as well.

I remember having a discussion more than 10 years ago with Will Tillery about someone in his family having one. He was going to great lengths to get them into ANY other Rover. Told me he would never have one, too hit or miss on the electronics. I figure if Will doesn't want one that was a bad sign.
