My wife brought the rover in for an inspection sticker. It failed because it did not have front parking lights. :banghead:

The small bulbs in the headlights are the front parking lights....right?

right, plus 2 side markers. if those are working then the inspection guy is a joke and should redo it for free. rovers werent imported to the u.s. if they didnt meet all of the state codes at time of manufacture. what an idiot

He is a idiot. I'll gave to go back and show him how the bulbs light up in the headlights. I get the feeling it will be a tough. I have a RTE bumper, so no side lights.Didn't even ask about those. Just wanted forward facing parking lights. He offered to replace the bulbs in the orange lamps, which he thought where burnt out, for $8.99 each

There are no forward side lights on a D1. The city lamps are the only front parking lamp. They never had side lights until the D2. There is only one filament in the signal assembly.

Update:

Still cannot get a inspection sticker.
The inspector will not accept the "city lights" in the headlight as the parking lamp. I already called the RMV and they told me the inspector is wrong. If the vehicle was built with the forward facing parking lights contained in the headlamp and it is DOT approved then they are acceptable. So I can win that fight. But the inspection station is now questioning the lack of side marker lights up front. The RTE bumper does not have a spot for the original side markers that were in the plastic corners of the original bumper. The RMV told me that if a vehicle is built with side markers then it has to have them to pass inspection. If it is built without them then no need.
I need help.
Has anyone installed side marker lights after a RTE bumper was put on?
Steve at RTE suggested installing some small lights in the fender which I'll do if I can't find an alternative idea.
I am thinking about installing a dual element bulb and a extra wire into the blinker lights. Is this possible? Has it been done?

can you peel that off? haha. sorry but i know nothing about inspections. thats quite a mess you have now. your dual element idea i like. maybe you can actually install some side marker lights that might look pretty cool. thats what i would do probably. every now and then you run into something like this where the whole land rover thing throws someone for a loop. i hate it. good luck.

WTF ? In Chicago they don't even check to see if drivers are licensed, much less care
about something like vehicle inspections or parking lights :ack:

How about just mounting some DII side markers ?

DII side markers? What is the difference? Guess I never noticed.

Just go to another inspection station and tell them you failed because a light was out. They won't know the difference and if you show they "any" light was replaced, they should take your word. You want to find a place that is more "friendly" to modified rigs. Most of the mom and pop places are usually less particular about the rules. especially the ones without a dyno.

Guess it's worth a try. Worse that can happen is another no. Your right about another station. The one I went to last year never bothered with the lights, didn't use them this year because they were busy. I'll use them next year and wait!
