i need to move to atlanta for the summer. i'm looking at a place in midtown, specifically on howell mill road near 10th street. the place is a dump, but i can live with that. what i was wondering if i should avoid that part of town for any reason? i'm sorry but i know nothing about this town. i'll be working in marietta. i'm having a hard time finding anything i can afford obviously. i guess while i'm on the topic are there any pointers or things i should know in general regarding location? thanks alot

Midtown to Marietta is a bit of a hike. Reverse commute, but still a hike.

Try http://www.promove.com/

Try to avoid I-285 which is the bypass that circles the city. Rush hour can be a bear on that road, especially on the northern side of town.

There should be some decent places for a fair price in and around Marietta. Higher than Clemson, but it's all relative.

PM if you need anything else.

Midtown is fucking awesome! We have a Condo on 12th overlooking Piedmont Park. I was there last month and basically parked my truck. Everything is within walking distance. Bars, restaurants, grocery, coffee, etc..., it's all right there.

I'm not sure if you're looking to buy or rent. But, I guess if you're looking buy, I saw several one bed room studio available for like $250,000 in some of the high-rise buildings. Currently, we have a pending sale on one of our condos here http://www.blueskyatl.com/viewlisting.asp?id=118 The family will not rent this one, but if you're looking to buy, they're taking back up offers. May be more than what you're willing to pay, though.

We have another Condo on 10th and one more off Marietta. The one off Marietta doubles as an Art Studio. The one on 10th is cool, but not nearly as convenient as the one off 12th.

If you're going to live in that area, get a bike! Also, have a smaller car to get around in. I think ATL is the Capital of Land Rover, as you see one about every three minutes in the Midtown area - mainly RRS's. But, you hardly ever see something along the lines of an H2 - they're just too fucking big and a PITA to park.

thanks for the replies. i'm just looking to rent a sublease for the summer. its true about the rover thing, i saw a badass disco I up the street. it was pretty modded, maybe someone from here. my office is just off of I-75 on the edge of marietta, its actually not too bad a commute. the traffic doesnt bother me at all. my only concern about midtown is it safe for me and my rover. the parking at the apartment is right off the street and isnt secured. i've driven all around atlanta, so i know the traffic do's and donts, i just know nothing about actually living there.

You might want to check the Kennesaw area. It is a college minded renting area, and with you just wanting a summer abode, you should be able to find a decent place for not alot of coin. The Barret Parkway exit(261 I think) and Chastain Rd.(265 I think) exit have quite a few apartment complexes less than 900 meters from the interstate. Plus it puts you a little north of the perimeter, so in the event traffic is re-god-damn-diculous, you can shoot around on Bells Ferry or 92 to get into the Marietta area without laying tread on the interstate. I used to commute from Kennesaw out into Roswell and found it to be decent area to live in.

Tom Rowe works near Mid-Town, or at least parks there. Not too far off the path...

I live off of Moore's Mill which is one exit above Howell Mill. Midtown and Buckhead are great places. It just depends where you work. If you're inside the perimeter, then you should be against traffic. I work off Pleasant Hill on 85nb. It takes about 30 mins in the morning and 40 mins in the afternoon to get home. I'd love to have more room as I have a townhouse but you can't beat the location. My association has a golf course, bar and grill, tennis courts, etc. The eye candy is good around here as well.
Stay above 1-20...;)

Damn, that would be a sweet place to work. Hooters, Joe's Crab Shack, Land Rover Dealership, MILF's at the mall...etc... It's all right there!

You ever been 4-wheeling in that area across the street from the Lotus dealership? Thick ass mud!

My uncle owns a restaurant off Pleasant Hill, El Torero.

I could probably walk/run to Joe's Crap Shack! I work off Breckinridge. The Blue Marlin is the place for Sea Food. I highly recommend!!! Bang for your buck!!! I've never been to the Lotus dealer before. I can say that I pretty much dislike the whole 85 corridor. I don't know what it is about this area. The traffic is HORRIBLE on 85. Morons in the fast lane, big trucks in the fast lane, ladder-stackers, just idiots everywhere. 400 and 75 have their share of rocket scientists but nothing like 85. Enough bitching. I'm looking forward to the drive home. Going to hit Fellinis (sp.) on the way home for a pie!!!:victory:

Jack,

I work at the corner of Sugarloaf and Satellite. I eat at Fuddruckers near you as well as Loco's on 120 every week. Best thing about working where we work is going to Bass Pro Shops to get camping supplies on lunch break for the next Tellico trip.

Yeah, I've noticed that! I also noticed that Discover Mills houses all the black, cracked out women with like 6 kids each. There was a nice MILF working at Eddie Bauer, though!
