Performance Fuel Injectors

I want to have my 98’s fuel injunctors serviced by my local diesel shop.
I’ve done it before on all my previous 7 rovers.

Now, I wonder if anyone has found modern performance injectors that fit this Discos???

I picked up 8 and have yet to install them. The forum members recommended them, so this may be a start for ya.

I believe these are the same Volvo injectors I just installed in my 4.6 RRC. I searched for Bosch Injectors with the part number 0280155746 on ebay and found a reman set of 8. It runs so much better.

I had the stock injectors rebuilt by a local shop while I was rebuilding the top end. Two stock injectors died shortly after install so I threw the Bosch Volvo injectors in.

How’s the gas milage with them????

I have checked several times. All around driving I get 16 mpg plus or minus about half a mile per gallon. I don’t do a lot of stop and go driving but live in a very hilly area and regularly travel from about 4000 ft to 9000ft elevation.Of course the trip from 9000 to 4000 doesn’t use much fuel at all.,

Also, due to the high elevation I can get away with 87 octane. We have 2 stations in the town I usually buy gas that have 87 for regular, all the others are 86.,

I've used these 2 times now, work very well and yes, the price has gone up, but well worth it. I'm on 35's with 4.56's so gasmilage isn't a thing I'm able to really look at.

Curious what your issue/problems were with the old injectors? My problem is my truck usually takes two attempts to start. First turn of the key kind of resembles a flooding symptom, then the second attempt usually does the trick. Bit my concern is wear on the starter, etc.

I am not an expert in this but I believe the “uprated” injectors have a better mist pattern due to the multiple outlets in the head. I was told the original LR injectors kind of dump the fuel into the combustion chamber. The two I have them in start right up with very little starter effort.

One, hot or cold takes just a flick of the key. The other one (high miles) when cold fires right up but when hot takes more time but still isn’t much. Both are 96 models.

Both were purchased in need of repair and one i have no prior history of how it started / ran. The other one was having real issues with hot starts. It improved a lot after I installed the injectors but I did a lot of other things in addition to the injectors. So, I don’t have much of any before and after to share.

No idea. They worked when I pulled them to rebuild the top end, but two stopped working shortly after the reinstall. The shop that rebuilt them for me has done many sets of the newer Bosch truck injectors for me, so I think they know what they're doing.

For what it's worth, the first Rover engine I rebuilt was a GEMS 4.0 and it had two injectors fail shortly after the rebuild. My family owned European repair shops at the time, so I just pulled some spare GEMS injectors from a blown engine and they worked fine.

As for what makes the newer, skinnier injectors better, its their spray pattern and response rate. This is a pretty common upgrade in the Mustang Foxbody, BMW E30, Jeep YJ, XJ, ZJ, etc. worlds too.

Not sure if this helps for a GEMS V8 but I swapped the stock old green Bosch 0280155787 vs. reconditioned tan Bosch 0280155705 injectors 3 years ago on my Thor V8.
No issues and having slightly better petrol mileage.

That sounds a lot like a stuck injector leaking the fuel rail into a cylinder and flooding it. I ran 2 bottle of injector cleaner on 1/4 tank HARD WOT. Cleared up that issue and hasn't came back.


Now as of late I've been bogging up hills and low power, shifting low at 3k on WOT. Done just about everything you could think of wires plugs compression test. 30psi on rail, 40 with reg unplugged.. Well I changed the fuel filter again and now seems a lot better and old filter blew tested with my mouth about 40% restricted..

Mind you, This would be my 4th fuel filter, 3rd fuel pump assy, 3 fill vent tube leaks, 2 tank removals and full cleanings in 30k miles!


But MAN oh MAN am I all balling these injectors as my gas milage is terrible at 10 mpg city driving. Any city MPG numbers on these injectors?

Thanks, this gives me some things to think about. It’s been my daily for almost 20 years has about 200k miles and everything is literally factory original except water pump, coolant hoses, rad, oil cooler lines, plugs and wires, starter and alternator so I’m certainly not complaining. My fuel mileage is probably about 10mi/gal too, but the winch/bumper/lift/33’s aren’t helping the cause.

I have both the 2 described above. I have a Injector tester I picked up to clean my stock ones. Ill pop one of each in and run it so you can see the difference in output. The stock ones throw double the amount, compared to the other two. Then the Yellow Volvo one were next and the bosch 4 hole was last. The set of Bosch 4 holes that I picked up only one was working in the set. I cleaned them and got all but 3 now functional. Volvo had one out of the 8 that was dead. gave me fits trouble shooting it. Hell of a miss.

They're black, and have the grooves for the metal top clip. Narrow 15 degree cone spray angle, but no bent angle (perfect for Rover V8 intake shapes)

I got 8 of these for my 14CUX 3.9 at a really good price nearly a year ago.

I beleive the Gems uses the same, and think even the Thors work with them. They have also gone up about 50% since I purchased. I ran them through the bosch website to check the authenticity and it came up as genuine.

I leaned out the fuel map a bit and let the Lambdas adjust the trims, but it runs REALLY nice.

Be VERY careful where you buy injectors - there are plenty of fakes (especially ebay and amazon "genuine" new Bosch).

I had a similar problem, on hot starts, it was hard to start, would run rough and sometimes stall. I had at least one leaking original, and it was also affecting the fuel trim adjustments, making the runing even worse. It's now super smooth, fires right up and idles stable all the time.
