Picking Up A New Toy

Well, it's got four wheels at least!

My D2 is in having some laning bodywork damage rectified, so we used Philip's D2 to take the trailer down to Bracknell to collect my latest engine.

It's a 1927 Ruston & Hornsby 6hp AP (Agricultural Paraffin) engine.

The seller was also a Landie owner, he had a D2 TD5 and a 110 Defender.

I doubt very much that you'll ever be able to fit your new engine under the bonnet of your Disco. Besides, with only 6 hp it would likely be severely under powered.

But good luck with it anyway!

It would have been used to drive farm machinery as steam gradually got replaced by internal combustion.

Threshing wheat, pumping water, cutting chaff for feed and so on.

One engine could be moved around a farm to perform different duties.

Mostly throttle-governed in Europe, Hit and Miss engines were more popular in the USA and most that we see over here are imports.

Carburettor design flourished in France and the UK, and small engines benefited from accurate fuel metering and constant speed.

This engine is throttle governed.
