Looks great!! Is that an 01? Looks just like mine. Was planning to trim my front bumper this weekend. Hope the weather gives me a break!

Congrats, Bob

I would like to know if those tires rub and if you changed out the gearing cause i like the 255/85's more than the 265/75 IMO.

Willtn: no rubbing so far. just had it out on a snow bank in targets parking lot and it flexed out awesome with no rubbing at all. i did trim the hell out of the front bumper, and removed the fog lights, also trimmed a little bit behind the rear wheel and removed the forward front inner fender linings.

03springer: its a 99, just rolled over 100k

DownUnder: it cost me a total of $13 in parts and $16 for the knob. simplicity, mechanical ease, and lack of being able to find and affordable alternative like a linkage setup from a d1 or 04 d2 sold me on it completly. only had one issue installing it and that was keeping the joints from coming apart as i didnt have a welder on hand at the time. i fixed it by running steel cable around all of the weebles and it works perfect everytime. just a simple 90 degree twist and my dash indicator lights right up.

pnorvell: get the 255/85's hands down. i love them. the bfg's ride smooth, almost no noise at 70mph at all. no tracking problems and i think they look great. i almost went with 265/75's and im glad i didnt. they tuck in perfectly. didnt even have to adjust my steering stops at all either. i bought the tires through my local military exchange in florida, and they even had them shipped to my home garage in ohio no problem. i paid $164 + $22 s/h each. havent touched the gears yet. definately a little slower off the line if you dont punch it and gas milage im sure has gone down, havent driven it enough to calculate it yet.

varova87: gasket job wasnt bad. followed the rave cd step by step. last head bolt was a bitch but i got it with a socket on a weeble and air tools. otherwise mechanically i thought it was easy but very time consuming. i had plenty of time, took frequent breaks, and bagged and labled everything that came out frlom under the hood.

Take it easy and hit a trail close by before you count your chickens. When you flex on a ramp or anything straight and at 90 deg it's not the same as on the trails when you get more forward and rearward forces. I "thought" I was ok and had to trim two more times. If you do bottom out on the sheet metal you can do some serious damage.....then you might be trimming more that you think :ack:.

These two picks are the same tire on my D1 same lift etc (at the time) and look at the difference in the position.

Yea, you should have spent a little money and taken a little more time to do a proper CDL linkage install.

Good point but the DII has a much bigger wheel well FWIW.

Cheers,

Mike

I like the look! I ordered same tires a couple days ago and I like the stance of your truck, glad to hear the rubbing isnt too bad. I've put about 45k miles on a set of 265/75r16 Maxxis Buckshot Mudders and recently decided to upgrade to the 255/85's. I can't wait to get those badboys on.

You can get a D1 linkage and shifter for less than $100.00 now. It takes the same amount of time to install and looks and works way better than the twist shifter.

With those tires you should have gone 3" lift and you would have had almost no trimming on a DII. Just an FYI you will have to flip your spare carrier too. It will work but you will have to slam the rear door while holding up on it.

ok lets review...

your idea= $100 plus tracking the linkage down, and completely pulling apart my my shift mechanism and console after going through the same BS and install problems that everyone has had with getting the linkage to line up on a d2 correctly. no thanks.

my twist lever= $29 total investment. stainless steel hardware=no rust or corrosion. less than an hour for total install time. actually looks somewhat stock with the d1 knob. works flawlessly, and only requires a quick twist.

sorry im just not seeing the logic...

and yes i am going to go an inch higher, spacers are on thier way along with gears and front driveshaft.

thanks to everyone for the complements!

I like it! If the CDL linkage works for you then great! To each their own. The 255s look good, although I assume gears are a must. What other plans you got coming?
