I’m looking for a recommendation for a pitman arm removal tool for a D1. I have a cheap harbor freight tool and It stripped before it had any affect.

I use a snap on puller. I’ll post a pic when I go to my shop tomorrow morning. I ended up with 2 of them because someone borrowed it and didn’t return it. Then the one I lent out ended up in my toolbox next to my new one.
This thing kicks ass. I hammer it with a 1/2 in impact. It has never slipped off the arm and I have never broken one.

This is what you want Terry. Keep the threads greased up and it will love you long time. I see them on eBay for 90 to 120 bucks used.
I don’t sell tools even when I have a duplicate. I think it’s bad juju.

Thanks. I wish I hadn’t wasted the money (and even more the time) on the cheap harbor freight one. When I couldn’t find the one I thought I had, I forgot I had actually broken it years ago. Then, I absentmindedly bought another of the same type. I remembered I had broken it years ago shortly after I broke the one I just picked up at harbor freight. You know, the definition of insanity.

I may not use it again for years but it’s well worth spending the extra dollars to get a good one and the correct type. By the time I get it, I will have lost a week waiting for it to arrive. Thick headed I can be at times. Thanks for sharing your experience. Otherwise, I would have tried a higher quality “C“ type one and probably would have wasted more time and money. I found a post on a Defender forum where several people posted pictures of their broken C type pullers of multiple manufacturers. Some just gave up and purchased new pitman arms for their new steering boxes.

Yeah this thing will serve you well. Pay attention to the model#. They make one just like it but smaller I believe.
It’s worth it just for the safety of not having pieces of puller flying past your head.

Good to know. Probably the same size for a d2. Will be talking to snappy this week.
