Place To Take A Disco II in Philly For A Pre-Purchase Inspection

Hello, apologies in advance if this is not the appropriate place for this. I searched and found nothing...

I am looking to buy an '04 Disco II SE7 and found one in the color combo that I (my wife) want in Philly. I called on it and it is unfortunately at a used car dealership and the guy doesn't know much about it other than to tell me there are no lights on the dash, the engine isn't making any noises, "sounds great," and he says it drives great. The carfax was only somewhat helpful. I have never owned a Disco (only a '72 SIII and a '94 D90) but have been reading about them for a few months in preparation to buy. This has just over 100k. He couldn't tell me about the head gaskets or the front drive shaft. I have a buddy in the area (who knows nothing about Land Rovers) who I could ask to take it to a shop for a pre purchase inspection so I don't have to drive down from Maine only to turn around and go home (already made a few trips in vein). Does anyone have any recomendations? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you are getting it for 3k or less don't buy it. The only thing I would buy from philly would be a cheese steak.

Unfortunately not. They're asking $6k. I was thinking 4. Living in Maine makes it tricky because there aren't a lot of clean examples available. My other option is buying one in south Florida where my inlaws are. I was excited about driving it back, but then I read the 'To Alaska & Back' thread and can't tell if that made me nervous or just more excited to do so.

Buy the one from Florida. I bought my latest D2 in Dallas Texas. Flew down and drove it 23 hours back straight through. It's got 4" of lift on 35's with a 3 link front and rear. It drove like a Cadillac. A very tall Cadillac with no sway bars.

I agree get one from down south. I just had one shipped from Northern California to Northern Illinois for $1,000. 6 grand is a shit ton of money for a Disco2 from the rust belt.

It's worth an extra $25 dollars in Starbucks purchases for the drive home to buy one rust free.

No PPI needed, it will need headgaskets and probably a motor. And two door latches won't work and most likely one window regulator, and the headlights are probaboly melted.

Lol yep put the 6 grand toward a new engine. Agreed on southern trucks....bought both of our D2s from NC....no rust. You're guaranteed to have engine work to some extent, so find one worthy of putting the money in...ie no rust
