Nice LR3, but .....

This video shows the deficiencies of the LR3 and LR's traction contol system. The LR3 needed to run at the sand while the Defender just took its good ole time and just walked.

The LR3 doesn't Tread Lightly.

Heh Mark- I guess you've NEVER had to back up and try again?
Right?
You never had to back up and try again when other trucks 'made it??'
Thats what you're saying.

I loved watching 3 modded Rovers having to winch 400 feet, 100 feet of winch line at a time, up a slippery slope when my D3 went right up on stock tires. Sorry Dude, thats the way it is.

No, what I'm saying is that TRS requires forward momentum and not finesse. I've seen side by side comparisons of D1 open diff, DII's with traction control and Defenders with lockers. The D1 scrambled but made it on the first attempt, the DII with traction control had to make repeated attempts and finally made it after taking it at speed while the Defender walked up. No different than the LR3 in the video. The obstacle? A steep hill with broken down granite. The traction control system and the TRS fight themselves in this situation, same as sand. They do not tread lightly.

The venue? A dealer trip with the Land Rover area rep present. He was not so bold after the day's trip.

That's it I'm moving to France, buetiful women, great food, diesl D-90s and trails like that. Yup France is my kind of place!

And DiscoTim, it's my understanding that the Defender chassis and the Disco 1 chassis are essencially the same thing so you driving unlocked and a Defender driving locked says nothing about the truck and everything about the driver. I don't hate the Disco 3, but being called the LR3 in the States meens will just never be as cool as a Disco 1.

No hate, just facts. The trip was unrehearsed. We were out wheelin and the last fun part was a hill climb. I was interesting to see the LR reps body language at the side by side comparison.

Watch the LR sales video's. The recommended method for continuing forward progress when encountering an obstacle is more pedal. The wheels HAVE to spin for the computer system to sense which wheel to apply the brakes to.

Thanks for sharing the videos! Good to see the D3 in action. In the sandy part where the D3 got bogged in the first attempt, what was the tyre pressures?

Also does your D3 have the air suspension or is it coil sprung?

I agree! And now they want the Freelander to be called the LR2. How sad is that? Compounding a bad choice in my book.
What will they call the new Defender if they bring it over an H1, oops I mean LR1. Land Rovers used to be simple, a Range Rover would do well while roping catle out on the Range, a Discovery was good to go on adventures and Discover tings, mainly your credit limit, A Defender was for the army so they could Defend things, and the Freelander was good because it was simple transportation accross the land the Defender fought to keep Free. But what the hell is and "LR3" supposed to be good at?
