Maybe brine doesn't create this kinda stuff 😄

Having this melt in a heated garage all over your car every night I guess is not necessarily the best thing...
That isn’t unusual for us as well yet conditions don’t last that long thankfully. My routine for this is using warm water to melt it. All the garage bays (3) have floor drains to the outside. Then come back for an undercarriage clean along with the paint. Being retired helps with time allocation. 😁

Dang. Wish I had that garage. Why not just let it melt in the heated garage and then wash? Anyway...

In CO they primarily use magnesium chloride.

Do you guys just buy a new daily every five years? Seems unsustainable for the majority. Maybe you guys should just go back to horses.

Regarding the salt brine above. I'd have a hard time purchasing anything other than an appliance knowing it's going to be dissolved in brine in short order. I saw a van driving around with Wisconsin plates yesterday and it looked like swiss cheese even from the outside.

I don't know what they use in Wisconsin, but they seem to have worse rot than we do.

You would be surprised at how long stuff that's full of rust stays structurally sound 😄

But yeah, this is part of the reason I don't really have the impulse to buy anything "Super nice".

Lol! We call them “Winter Cars” and usually every 3 years. Had many of them before getting on Company World Tour. Now being retired with time on my hands can properly take care of the “fleet” and enjoy driving them during the Winter.
Except the Rangie. It hibernates. 😁IMG_3643.jpeg

It’s usually about 10 yrs for me. Things start looking kinda shitty after that. Like rust bleeding out of deck lids and door bottom edges. It gets so cold salt doesn’t help and then they start putting acids and what have you in with the rock salt.

The brine vs salt thing. Doesn't that snow/ice salt mixture become brine once it starts to melt. It seems to me it's much more important how much effort is put into washing the undercarriage and removing the salt/brine

I think those brine solutions are a different chemical compound and they kind of stay wet?

Yeah when it gets wet the salt does turn into "brine", but the water evaporates and then you're just left with powdered salt again.

Now, I could be totally wrong 😆

Does brine end up looking like this on your car?

You got me there, that I do not know.

It stands to reason it's best to buy a vehicle from somewhere that doesn't see snow. If you do have to buy from an area that sees the white stuff it's important how the vehicle has been taken care of.

Yep, used car dealers here always make note when a car comes from out of state cuz it's a selling point.

(Outstate being nothing in the general four or five state region here 🙂)

Looked at an awesome L405 ATB yesterday. Will do pre purchase inspection this AM.

Really great salesman. I found it searching for anything NOT black/white interior and exterior. They didn't even have to pay for photographer

Interior is primo... for 2017, I say 10/10.

Exterior has 2 dings. One on the "bonnet" really bugs me looks fresh and went down to primer. Another on rear 1/4 panel. With a $9k optioned paint job first ding sucks. Premium British Racing Green Ultra Metallic (1BR).

Don't like this rear seat monitor setup, but not gonna hold me back from purchase.

Give me your best haggle techniques. For a dealer I think he is priced pretty "market fair" at 56k.... 2017 Range Raver L405 Autobiography, 40k miles. Clean title and carfax. Serviced buy LR 7 times looks like 16k, 32k service, idler pulley, infotainment update, oil changes. All by LR Tampa.

Engine sounds great, makes me worry about my SCV6 LR4..

Sticker was $154k. Clearly they know I want it as I flew here from DEN.

Just asking, have you inquired about insurance? I've gotten a couple of articles in my news feed about owners having to sell their RR's because they are so targeted by thieves insurance has become almost unattainable.

Yeah, I have read that too, but th I thought it was a UK thing. I did call my broker to check on how much it v was to insure and will add this today. Fortunately this car is primarily in a zip code where auto theft is not a thing (knocks on wood).
