Ok people, so many of you have made such cavalier and dire predictions of my engine's demise I say let's vote how many miles an '04 can go on 5psi of oil pressure...

Facts are:

1. At 111K dreaded oil light flicker began.
2. Put mech. gauge on to rule out sender.
2. Oil returns to pan after shutdown as normal.
3. Pulled oil pan, to rule out sludge or obstructions.
4. Replaced front cover to rule out oil pump.
5. No top end noise whatsoever.
6. No loss of power.
7. No loss of MPG.
8. Oil light on constant at idle, intermittent at throttle.
9. Mech gauge reads 5psi at idle, 8-10 at throttle.

ODO now reads 113K and pulling strong.

Place your bets. IF and when she goes I will update the poll.

Thanks.

You know you are building bad MoJo towards your Rover by betting on its demise. Due to your flaunting, I would imagine that it is patiently waiting to break down when you need it the most.

If a family member suddenly needs to go the the hospital, I would call a cab.

If You Replaced The Timing Cover Then There Are Bearing Problems Or Sludge Buildup Some Where Else Causing The Low Oil Pressure....have You Tried A Different Gauge?

So... you would rather not spend $1K to fix now vs. $6K in a few months. I like you logic. You should move to Washington DC. I think a lot of people there share the same thought process.

Thanks yes, on the way to a wedding.

Well if you could guarantee that it to die on the way to your OWN wedding then I can see your point on driving it in a crippled condition. I am sure many men on here would agree.

General consensus now is slipped cam bearing. Therefore, I have no faith in this block. Once I pull it it's most likely garbage. Once the cam snaps it's definitely garbage. So I may as well drive it to weddings. I might get lucky. And this gives me time to find another block on the cheap, without pulling an extremely reliable daily driver off the road in the middle of winter. :)

I have an 03 engine in my garage with perfect oil pressure... except it has a loose liner :banghead:
It runs well, you just need to wear ear protection :smilelol:

Its really not to difficult to find where your pressure is going. Tear it down and start measuring shit. I'd bet money that your mains and big rod ends are worn to copper.
