Well, here you go. It's been touted on TV for a while now.

you'd the salesman would have touted that. Although I've found that most car salesmen have no idea what they're selling, except that it's kind of big, made of metal, and has four tires, and look at this coooool sunroof.

I put about 60K miles on my 96 Cherokee and it was a pretty good car. Rear diff grenaded on the street after about 25K miles and was replaced under warranty. Aside from squeeks and rattles after it was broken in I can't complain about much else.

I just can't bring myself to pay any attention to American cars anymore. They are so far off the beaten path of quality and just all-around good taste. Look at that Pontiac website....what's their target audience? Fifteen year olds? I've been looking for a work truck, a new or lightly used standard F150 or Silverado, and all I can think when I look at the cockpit is 1993 Range Rover. What is America's fascination with big plastic buttons and supersized cupholders? And why doesn't BMW make a pickup truck?

I've driven a rental shortwheelbase Ram, and liked it. Kind of... Durango with a Hemi wasn't too bad, either.
We are renting a bunch of trucks in the sandbox, and most are Chevy or GMC. It blows my mind - why the fuck are the pillars so thick! I've almost missed a Humvee(!!!!) behind the B-pillar in a extended-cab quarter-ton Chevy pickup.

Hopefully with fuel prices on the rise, American car makers will see the use for smaller (4-5 cylinder) diesel engines and stop pumping out the piggish V8s with 10,000 lbs of torque for the average joe loading up a few 2x4s once a month.
Look at BMW kickin ass with their all aluminum diesel engines. Talk about clean burning efficient performance cars. The American big 3 can't come close to touching their engineering. Even their facilities are works of art.
When will Toyota dump a small diesel in a mid-size truck for the US market? That would be so ideal.

Garrett, I disagree.

Pretty much any component you want - GM has it, and it's nearly the best all around. GM's still got a stake in Isuzu, one of the largest small diesel manufacturers.
It's not Big Three you're complaining about in the last post - it's American Public and shitheads that get elected. If not for our NOx emissions requirements, we'd have all diesels we ever wanted.
Toyota, on the other hand, is usually among the last to jump on one or another bandwagon. It happened with 4x4s, V8s, hybrids, you can come up with example of your choice.

Who the heck wants that fugly impractical car.

It's like having sex with some morbidly obese ugly lady.

If GM wants to save themselves MAKE A GOOD CAR

GM has it, but not state side. That's what matters to me. Who cares if they have some 5 cylinder diesels in the UK. I want them here. I'm glad they are a diverse company. It's a very power tool to have, but it's useless if you have a bunch of hacks here in the US with no vision.

GM has a stock is alot of other good products. I really like the Opel I had in Ireland. Better than the shit box Pontiacs they are pumping out like corn dogs at Wal Mart. Then again it's not the American engineers that are designing their Opels.........it's the Europeans. They've always been a decade ahead of us in just about everything.

BMW is proving that our emissions requirements can be dealt with. Like I said the technology in their powerplants makes the Duramax look like a antique piece of shit.

was driving by some pasty white kids cruising with their sideways hats, windows down and radio blaring in their bright red Grand Am or Grand Prix or whatever yesterday. I moved one more lane away from them because I was afraid that all that bright red plastic body cladding was going to reach out for me.

Grand National. Oh, wait, that was Buick. Has Ponitac ever made a cool car?

Pontiac died out in the late 60's. right before they started to bloat up, right before the gas crunch.

Also remember that history has a way of repeating itself. Give them time and I am certain another hideous creation will appear.
One look at their website and it's easy to see that it's not too far away.

Pontiac has some good rock N Roll music on that website. I wonder if they give you a tape of music to play while you're driving. Makes you want to go get a pint of jack and go drivin'
