The engine in 2000 DII developed a slight knock while under load. I've noticed a 10% drop in fuel economy since the start of the knock. There are no codes. Oil pressure is good, new kingsbourne 8mm wires.

Maybe dirty injectors or some kind of build up? Have you tried running a system cleaner like SeaFoam?
Could be the injectors. I have used seafoam in the past.
I have a live data scan tool. Could the fuel trim values or any other data help me determine if it's a fuel problem.
I think the engine may be running hot. It's always over 100 C in city driving goes down on the highway to a steady 97 C.
