Popping noise

I have a popping noise and pop feeling coming from my front left wheel. Please tell me this is to be expected in a 99 Series 1 Disco with 71,000 miles. I am afraid that it might be the CV joint or CV boot. Please help.

I had a popping noise then I noticed that I had to turn the wheel a whole lot to turn the wheels then no steering at all- the steering shaft went out on mine but I have 130K on my 96. is it a pop like popcorn or like bubble wrap? Or is it like pop rocks the candy not cop rocks the legendary tv show? Im rambling. good luck.

It is more of a thud or thump. I can feel it underneath my feet as well as hear it. The problem is getting progressively worse. It used to make this noise every once in a while, I even had the dealership look at it one time when I was having it serviced. But they said they didn't find anything wrong. Now it makes this "popping"/"thud" noise and feeling almost every time I hit the brakes, turn left, or go over a bump. By the way Alexa, I always appreciate a good Cop Rock reference

Possibilities: cheapest first
Loose suspension/steering bolt
Shock Bushing failure (rare)
Suspension Bush failure, leading to axle rotation under braking.
Worn Shock (if original I would replace then anyway at those miles go bilstein if standard springs)
CV Joint failure though this would be a click click click esp when turning

Thanks Chris for the good news about the CV joint. It is not a clinking noise. The shocks are standard so that may be the problem.
