I am with Nextel but they now have the Blackberry is it worth the money? Because I do alot of texting.

I just got my work to switch me from the Nextel 7520 to the ATT Curve and it is a huge difference. The Nextel was slow and bulky and I couldn't see the screen, plus the service was weak all the time. Now with the Curve I don't feel like I'm holding a desk calculator to my head when I'm on the phone.

This is rather funny thread. I understand using technology for your job, but when I off the clock, I can't stand having a mobile tethering me to the net.

When I am out on my bike or walking or hiking, the last thing that I have is an ipod or even worse phone strapped to my ear.

No way will you ever catch me paying $600 for a damn phone.

Just some of the things i've noticed about the iphone since it replaced my blackberry pearl.

1. you cant save images that are emailed to you.

2. no copy and paste feature.

3. you cant send images from your phone to another cell # [MMS].

4. texting while driving is a pain in the arse. i could text without looking at my blackberry while on the road cause i could feel out the buttons.

5. you cant access the rest of the phone while youre on a call like i could on my blackberry pearl. contact list is accessible but not your notes, calendar, texts, etc.

6. the web browser does not support adobe or flash player...yet.

my blackberry was wonderfully versatile. this iphone is fun and the maps, weather, and stocks features are amazing but until they release the API and let programmers offer things like AIM clients, sports tickers, etc its pretty limited.

dirty: Thanks for posting that. You just saved me $600. Those six things alone would drive me nuts.

The funny thing is that I have had about every neat electronic gadget to come out over the last 15 years. Mainly because I am an IT guy, but I am also hopeful that someday we will have a gadget that lives up to its billing.

In almost every case I have been somewhat disappointed. That T-Mobile Dash looks promising though...

Curtis...if you do go for the Dash...go through Amazon...I got mine for 118 while they wanted to charge me 365 (back when it came out) In the Tmobile store.

Cingular 8525 at your service.

I post regularly from my phone. It works well.

i must agree w/ lr'd, the 8525 (htc hermes) wins out over the iphone in my book.

now the iphone is dead sexy and much slimmer than the hermes but until they overcome the limitations:

1. corp 3rd party security for email and
2. get on the 3G network
3. improve the qwerty design

it will remain, i fear, at the lower end of the smartphone spectrum w/ regard to overall functionality.

another compliment for the iphone would be the safari inet interface - MUCH better than winmobile! but this is completely offset by the speed of the 3G network...

also, i am posting this from my laptop up in breckenridge CO using my 8525 as a high-speed (literally) wireless modem. it is so fast that i have cancelled my comcast high speed service at home and simply use my hermes ($29/month unlimited svc).

i, like many, am waiting for apple to work out the initial bugs, solve for the above shortfalls (none of which require new technology - just apple playing nice w/ 3rd party app's) before switching over. from the latest scuttlebutt, it sounds like this will be late Q1/early Q2 of 08.

btw, Merry Christmas rover fans!

I have a BlackBerry Curve and I love the silly little thing. Went to an Apple store today to have a peek at the iPhone and I must say I was impressed. It was neat and does some cool things, but the browser was slooooooooooooow. My Curve flies for some reason. I expected a lot more from the iPhone. I'll stick with the Curve, it does everything the iPhone does, PLUS it has a 2 mp camera.

The difference with the Curve's mobil web is that it is only browsing sites optimized for mobil devices. The thing I love most about my iPhone is that it can access either, the full fledged website, or the light and fast mobile version. I find the Edge network here in SoCal to be accpetably fast, but WiFi is great, and there are surprising number of hotspots around here.

The good news is that Apple did release a Developer's package, and the expectation is that around February you will start to see some installable applications.

I am looking forward to being able to save email attachements to a folder somewhere on the device, and voice recognition.

The iPhone doesn't do everything, but what it does it does extremely well.
