I'm currently in the middle of restoring a 1965 SIIa 109 RHD with a 2.25. One of the first things im going to knock out is the prep and pain on the body panels...but I've run into a snag.

Here are two examples...

Are you concerned about the accuracy of your restoration? I've only seen white on white or plain aluminum tropical tops. Call me silly, I like the 2nd one. It might be easier to keep clean too (or the appearance thereof).

I like them both too; it's your Series, do as you wish.

But.... FWIW, on mine, I changed to more like the second one, from having the window sides in limestone, to having just the roof/sunsheet in limestone (gutter up), with everything below the gutter being dark green or galvanized....

Either is fine.

If you go with green roof and white / limestone trop top the dirt wouldn't show so much that gets trapped in between the two. I stripped mine both sides and painted Alpine white so the dirt shows and requires a pipe cleaner wash mitt setup to clean .

I like the cream roof myself, but I like the color of the 1st series the most. It looks a bit more bronze green than the second. Im almost done prepping my hybrid for paint. Most of the body went out to be painted last week. Im painting the sides too vs the white sides. The color I choose was willow green. Its a series 3 but not much series left on it other than the body, so I wasnt worried about a correct color. Keep us posted. Gordo

Correct, that first one pictured (from Copley's) is Bronze Green. That is my truck's original color and it currently has the factory coat of alpine white on the Whole roof.

Galen, thank you for naming it! - Sun Sheet...makes sense.

Gordo, I still frequent Florida atleast once a month so when it comes time to head down there in the Series, I'll let you know before hand and we can hook up for some drinks, an FLRC meeting, both, or wheelin!

I've already got the roof off and the tub is still getting the PB treatment and getting ready to come off.

hey man, youre always welcome down here my friend. BTW Mike bought a 65 Series 109 in Miami about a year ago. It's pretty much exactly like yours, except it's finished. It isnt perfect but its a great rig. PM me when you head on down! Gordo

I think you should do what you want. I wouldnt be too concerned about being factory correct unless you planned on never driving it and competing at Pebble Beach ;)

I sorta like the first one for SII/IIa and the 2nd for SIII.

I like all white tops too- but really, do whatever you like- you aren't buying/building/painting the truck for us- we have our own to play with. ;)

I've been contemplating this same issue with my 61 series II restoration project. I think I like just the tropical roof painted the contrasting color. I plan on bronze green for the body, and limestone for the tropical roof, and the wheels. The roof will be bronze green with the rest of the truck.

JC, I'd go with the limestone roof and sun sheet. As far as 88's go the rear side panels were limestone as well. I like the look of the body color all the way to the gutter line, it might look nice to do the door tops and side panels in limestone as well, though the body colored rear door kind of breaks up the clean lines. Here's mine with limestone roof and sunsheet.

There is a little mis-information in this thread. All Series Station Wagons from 1954-1984 (correction:54-67) (86/107/88s and 109s) had limestone (or Ivory in the case of series ones) sunsheets with body colored roof and sides.
