Does anyone else have a problem with the brake shoes being just slightly too big? It seems like the metal backing of the shoe is too long. When I put them on I have the adjuster to the least adjustment and then when I tighten down the wheel lugs the wheel stiffens up and won't budge.it's the right part 10" series iii 88 shoes. I'm baffled

Cheers, make it two.. long day......

I've never actually bought new brake shoes...just had the old ones rebonded. Now that the only shop in town that did that work has closed....

One time though, I specified lining material that was too thick. Spent some time with a belt sander making them fit. If I ever die from asbestosis, that was it....

While there are very minor difference between the leading and trailing shoes, I'm not sure it's enough to make it bind up. Are the leading and trailing edges chamfered a bit?

Just make sure that the cylinder is fully retracted. I usually zip-tie it 'closed' and then snip the zip at the end.

Cheers

Yes, You will need to cut off the top ear of the shoe where it goes into the wheel cyl.

I also have installed the PL shoe's and found the metal of the brake is too long, I had to cut off about 4 to 5 mm to make them fit.

my friend is doing the same thing this weekend.

Cheers,

Kevin

Yes, That is a pain in the ass. If only the seller of the brakes let us know when we buy them. BTW, we have hear that you may need to trim the metal to make them fit!

That would be nice customer service to spread the word! :banghead:

Ever time I install brakes on series in my shop I need to do that mod.

Hey, if the lead/trail edge shoes are fitted backwards, would that wheel be tight to turn and not adjust correctly?

I'm wondering if I should go through the trouble of opening up my rear left brake to see if that is why it's constantly in contact with the shoes.
