I'm at my wits end with this god damn vehicle right now. I have tried the hanging folder rail trick and various incarnations of a diy tool and I absolutely cannot get the radio out. It's been 3 hours of beating my head against a wall.

So what's next? Where to I even begin to disassemble the entire dash?

All this after having it buried up to the frame in mud until 3am this morning. I'm about ready to shoot it.

Take a hanger and cut the two "shoulder" sections off and use that to slide in the release holes. Have to use a little finesse but you can feel the clips, then keep pressure and pull out.

so uhh, where do you commonly look on the discos? Just out of curiousity...

I did the hanging file folders...sounds like you aren't hitting the release pins just right. If you don't get them in there just right you will never be able to get the pins to release...

1-go to best buy, locate the car stereo install bays, tip a guy who is holding wire clippers $10
2-talk to the shop boys there, smile
3-insert keys fully till they click, insert fingers in cassette deck and pull, dont be weak here, okay?
4-have a great day, I pulled out my deck in under 30 seconds. maybe less.
5-it pays to use the right tool, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120869...oval-Tools.html?search=din+radio+removal+tool

If its of any help, I could not get it out WITH the crutchfield tools forever either, just like you. I had a replacement one at hand (stock, but with an AUX in port on its face), so having looked at the release springs I realized I was doing everything right, except that the unit I was trying to get out must have one of its springs fallen off... so i was not even hitting it. Anyway, long story short, it just took some serious effort to get the bugger out as one spring was released with the tool and the rest of the force needed just to get it it moving after sitting there since 2001.

This was 6 months ago.

The problem I was having was I had popped the clip out of place and lost it in the radio. I wound up removing the HVAC controls and forcing the radio out from the back with a crowbar. Hope I never have to do that again.

There is not a scratch on it. It actually worked out perfectly because I wound up needing the space behind the HVAC to install the ipod control box anyway.
