Greetings,
I'm going to be putting in a new 4.0L short block this weekend. Are there any tip or tricks that I should be aware of.

Are there any special procedures or compounds that are not mentioned in the overhaul manual.

How about in putting in the valley gasket and end seals?

Thank you,
DiscoEd

I used a dab of black RTV at the ends of the end seals, and smeared a bit in the groove (that was 3.9, fwiw). Make sure the valley gasket sits tight and flat on the heads when you drop the intake in - it may curl up and a little corner can get folded onto itself.

heres a big tip, if your using a new block, gems engine, and you have a truck older than 99, besure to swap over the crank sensor bracket from the old engine to the new. check with the engine supllier to verify block type, i would suggest having it tack welded in place some have used jb weld, but that makes me nervous. look in to it ;)

Why not put in a 4.6?
You might need a chip, but the 4.6 is a lot more engine than the 4.0.

Short block?.... mmm..... Is this short block prebuilt? After rebuilding my 3.9, I would recommend replacing the rear main seal and have the crank polished. I have a 4.0 long block on the engine stand, but the rebuilt 3.9 is STILL RUNNING... I have been banned from a couple of driveways though... I didn't polish the crank on my 3.9 rebuild.....
