I have a couple part D1's sitting that I pilfer from for my DD, just wondering if there are any parts that you recommend pulling off a truck right away rather than let it sit on the truck?

Having parted a truck earlier this year I prioritized my dismantling in this order:

1. Stuff I probably won't need and is in demand - i.e. will sell quickly (shocks, engine ancillaries, brake calipers, drivetrain components)
2. Stuff I probably will need and should remove so it doesn't corrode, get moldy, get chewed on by critters, etc. (sensors, computers, electrical components, interior parts, belts, hoses)
3. Stuff I probably won't need any time soon and it doesn't matter if it stays on the donor truck (axles, wheels, trans, TC, engine, glass, plastic interior panels)

I would imagine this order might be different depending on where you live and what kind of storage facilities you have available. If I had room in a garage/cousin's warehouse I wouldn't remove anything from the truck until I needed it. If the truck was sitting outside in New Hampshire I'd strip it before winter set in.

I'm am down in Texas, trucks are just sitting outside. One is covered one just has a front windshield screen. Not that interested in parting out to sell, just wasn't sure if there are parts that breakdown just sitting through the heat and cold and would be better served being pulled and brought inside.

Well, the plastic interior stuff will be unobtainium at some point. The UV rots that stuff over time. In the old days I played around building and parting Toyotas and Nissans. I started pulling all the knobs, cables, interior stuff and putting it inside. You wouldn't believe what guys will pay for a factory choke cable or wing window knobs. I do stuff like that because I keep cars forever, I guess it just depends on your time line.

Anything plastic that is still in good shape should be taken out of the sun and heat. Same for the interior. Critters can decide to make your nice seats their new home. Anything metal should be fine sitting out in the Texas heat.
