Question On Rotoflex Conversion

I posted the following on the Range Rover - Technical Discussions, and I realized that a greater number of Discovery vehicles, by model years, had the Rotoflex installed. Also, a greater number of you Discovery owners have converted from the Rotoflex driveshaft to a standard U-joint driveshaft. I would appreciate any answers/information you could share with me:

I have a few questions on the conversion from the Rotoflex driveshaft to a standard U-joint driveshaft on my 1995 Range Rover Classic (yes, I was cursed with a Rotoflex).

Last week I purchased the conversion kit from British Pacific (Daily Special for $250.00). When I received it, I went through the parts list to make sure I got everything. In the Flange Kit, STC4858, there was the flange, spacer, seal, nylock nut, a bolt, and a cotter pin. Can anybody tell me where the bolt and cotter pin are used on the conversion? I looked at the Discoweb article on the conversion http://www.discoweb.org/rotoconversion/index.htm
and it did not show or mention these items as part of the conversion. I just want to make sure that I do the conversion once, and not have to go back and do anything over again.

I plan to use liquid wrench, a heat gun, and a slide hammer (from a rental yard) to get out the centering peg. I have a grinder, if all else fails.

Thanks for any input.

You will not need them. You will use only the nylock nut, spacer and seal on your vehicle.

I want to thank everyone from the Range Rover and Discovery boards for their reponses.

Turns out that older models have a castellated nut that takes the cotter pin. Newer models use either the nylock nut or the bolt.

Rob Davison provided information and illustrations from an older Range Rover Shop manual that shows the castellated nut that takes the cotter pin.

The work shop manual I have that is exclusively for a 1995 Range Rover (air bag dashboard & rotoflex) shows the nylock nut.

This morning, I decided to looked at the work shop manual I have for a 1995 through 1998 Discovery (my wife has a 1998 Discovery with a standard driveshaft) shows the nylock nut and/or the bolt in the illustration, and is noted in prominently below the illustration.

So as it turns out, the Flange Kit, STC4858 covers all 3 possibilities of bolting/retaining the flange to the pinion. At least somebody was paying attention when they put the kit together. I just wish they would have put an information sheet inside the kit to prevent confusion. Nothing is worse than having extra parts when the job is finished, and wondering where they go or if they need to be installed.

Thanks again to everyone.
