Our '06 LR3 HSE has been alarming intermittently during the last 2 months. Probably 2 or 4 times a day. No codes on the display, but sometimes it would throw a code "hood/tailgate is open". However, during the last month no code as noted. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

If I could look into a magic crystal ball and ask it what is wrong with your truck I think maybe the magic crystal ball would tell me that you have a hood, tailgate or door microswitch that is faulty.

Bingo! You are correct. The dealer replaced the hood switch.

On another note. The LR3 had an F on the dash for a brief period while driving home from SC to NJ. I stopped for gas and the F disappeared. Do you know what the F stand for?

The heat melts the inside of the switches and causes false triggers, or that is at least what they told us in class at Atlanta.

The contact in the switch usually get contaminated in my experience. There is a technical bulletin saying that you should not lubricate the hood latches because it will contaminate the switch.

If it is where the gear selector position is shown, it stands for fault. Has someone recently replaced the transmission electrical connector sleeve?

No, I don't believe so. Correct, it was where the gear selector position was shown. It was the first time we had the Fault only for a brief period on Saturday, it then disappeared. I don't believe it came out today. Should I replace the transmission electrical connector sleeve, or leave it alone for now?

If its not leaking I wouldn't replace it, but it is a common leak point. They will seep for a long time before they really start leaking. I wouldn't suggest replacing it until it drips on to the cross member. Its common for the local independent shops to do connector sleeves and not fully seat them into the transmission. When this happens it can cause a lot of different faults and can also prevent the vehicle from shifting out of park.
