I would like to be able to take my SD roof rack off when not wheeling and especially when towing.

I have a set of 4 Hella 4000 and a worklamp on it. Does anyone have a suggestion for quality disconnects I can place above the pillar to make this easier? Thanks,

John

Regarding the PC, as hard as I am on my wheels, the powder coating has been grinded thru to the alloy in a lot of places. If you like black and you're going to take them out and beat them, my suggestion would be to save some money and rattle can them with a good adhesion primer. That way you can always touch up.

Wow, two nice rides..............You must be single!
I wish! Huh humm, I meant the two nice rides mind you. That's not mine. I have a 65 Dormobile. But don't tell the wife as it's at the welders eliminating rust. She won't see/know about it until it's ready to take camping.

John,
Regarding the quick disconnects, search the forum for there was a discussion on this topic some time ago. If I remember correctly, several folks had used a 4 prong flat-type trailer plug and ran it through the roof and out of the hole where the roof rails bolt up. It was very clean looking. Maybe someone will chime in w/ the link to the thread.

I have 4 Hella 4000s and the Rear light. I ended up using 5 wires so I got the 5 wire connectors. They have a few different size connectors so this place should do the trick.

The only downside to this place is that they have minimum size orders so you end up having to buy 6 sets of connectors and wire fittings. If you have 5 wires going to the rack, my brother may have enough to make a complete set, so PM me if you are interested.

John,
Can we assume you have the wires running up in the A pillar covers? I use a 4x12ga rubber coated UV and oil resistant wire up each side of my windscreen just inside the pillar. I use the stick on wire tie bases to zip tie the cables tight. Then when I remove the rack I just cut off the zip ties and lay the two wires in the trough below the wipers under the hood until I need them again. If that isn't doable for you, then check the West Marine catalog as I know they have water proof male/female connecter sets you could use. The flat 4 trailer wire is another option, but they also make a 2 wire flat connector that is less obstrusive, but I think it is only 16ga wire.

i went to advanced auto, and in with the trailer stuff there was some two wire water proof plugs. they were very cheap and work great.i have two on my rack, one for the front pair, and one rear work light. they are small, and have a red and a white wire.

John,

I used the Weather Pack connectors for rack lights and worklamp on my wife's G4 Freelander. Below is the manufacturer's site. They're available in single up to six way connections. I can show you how they look like when you pick up the wheels this Sunday.

They're available at the Autozone site.

But I got mine a lot cheaper from sellers like this one on Ebay.
