Get an ipod interface for it and ditch the CD changer.

I once found a write up on making an Ipod interface out of the factory cd setup. I've never seen it since, but it worked with the factory head unit.

No "CD" button to push, unfortunately.

The "Mode" button only takes me to Bass, Treble, Fade & Balance. Keeping the Mode button pressed for a few seconds produces a beep and the display says "Flat". All the while , no sign of life from the CD changer.

I just ran into this same problem on my 96 DI. Bad alternator ran the battery down, radio needs code. But I cannot get it to accept the code, it just beeps at me. Left the key in position 1 for over an hour tonight, still no luck. I have reset this radio with this code several times in the past, but for some reason it is no longer working. Any ideas?

Answering my own question here. If you lock the radio you need to leave the key in position 1 for an hour _and_ you need to leave the radio on for that hour as well. The latter is what I was missing, kinda embarrassing I did not figure that out on the first try.
